My 92 VE has a really Lumpy Idle...

92 SE engine has 94,000 miles on it. It has this really crazy lumpy idle though. Whenever I engine brake and push the clutch at about 1500, and then stop immediately, the engine revs down and drops to about 400 and tries to die, and then kicks itself back to 800-1000. After that, it idles around 500-600, but it is really lumpy and vibrates the whole car.

Could a bad timing tensioner be affecting this at all? I don't want to hurt anything in that regard, considering this is already the 2nd engine this car has had.

I already replaced the spark plugs too, and that helped a little, but not a whole lot. I'm replacing the air filter shortly with a cone filter, so that may help also.

My car does the exact same thing. I don't think air filter will help your problem, because I have one and it is still doing the same thing.I'm wondered if it the idle up selnoid is needing cleaned.

good luck

I don't know if it feels like something dealing with either the battery or the alternator? Or general electrical systems problem? I don't know what the car feels like when it happens, but you tell me.

Probably a dirty TB or AAC valve or something else in the idle control.

aac?

I just had the intake all apart, and the TB is good and clean. Remind me of what an AAC valve is. Also, I want to replace my PCV valve, but I can't find the friggin' thing.
