home made intake

hey guys. i did a search and tried to find out how exactly to make a home made intake. in the search, all i found was the general stuff like "buy an adaptor and a cone and put together". Anyone know of a site that has directions and the specific parts that i would need to make one for my VE? (93 se auto) thanks in advance.

You dont even have to buy an adapter. All you have to buy is a cone filter ($25 at PepBoys for APC cone filter).

Now, take apart your stock airbox. Look inside it and you'll see this brass looking round thing. Use this piece as the adapter. If I remember it's held in with two rivets; you'll have to drill those out. Now, take out that brass piece and there's your adapter. Put the filter on that (you'll have to bend the edges of the "adapter" straight because they curl over, you'll see what I mean when you get it all out and take a look) and bolt it up. I had this setup for almost a year before I got my CAI a couple months ago. Pop-charger for 25 bucks, cant beat that. Good luck.

The problem with doing it that way is you are ruining a very expensive part for if/when you need to return the car to stock. Speed shops sell a real cast aluminum MAF adaptor for V6 Nissans for pretty cheap (OBX makes one, as well as other companies).

If you're REALLY cheap you could try using a square electrical box cover with a 3" hole in it (like 99 cents). Might have to glue an extension or the filter itself onto it though since it only protrudes about 1/2". Search for "ace intake" (or "ace" something - as in Ace Hardware) in General or 4th Gen to see this thingy.

Just remember to keep sealing good when you do the intake. Either use RTV with oil on the parts (so you can remove them later) or cut some 99 cent roofing rubber and make a gasket.

HTH

Very true...in my case I didnt worry about that because I knew there'd be no reason I'd ever be going back to stock.
