Better to have tranny rebuilt now or after its dead?

I posted before about my tranny, looks like I'll need a rebuild in the future. Is there an advantage to having it rebuilt before its completely dead, or should I just wait until she goes?

Thanks a lot

Joe

do it now, so you don't get caught out in the middle of nowhere with a broken tranny...I've been there its no fun! but if you can't do it now, it won't matter if you get it done after it breaks. you will probably end up paying the same amount since they'll rebuild the entire thing anyways.

If you have it rebuilt before it blows, then you SHOULD only have to replace the clutch packs and friction bands..

This should run you around $1200.

If you wait until it blows up and starts smashing parts together inside the tranny, then you have to buy lots more parts which cost a lot more money.. rebuild prices could run to $2000 or more in those cases.

If you've got the cash and the time, I recommend getting it taken care of before you blow it up.

I highly doubt it "new"....the only new trannys come in new cars...older cars only get rebuilds!

you can buy a REMANUFACTURED one from Nissan for $2350, and then you can have it installed for another $1000.
