Intake theory...

After reading a bunch on intakes and the like, I have learned this:
POP intake = high end gains because of shorter intake piping
CAI intake = low end gains because of denser air, but a loss of high end gains due to turbulence in the long intake piping
In my case, I have a VG, which has plenty of low end for me, but the top end clearly needs work. So, a POP intake would be good for me, but I don't like the price for the POP ($100 for a filter and adapter). So here is what I am going to do. I am planning on buying the Warpspeed CAI ($155) and using it as a POP intake. This way I get a POP intake, plus the S-shaped piping from the intake plenum to the MAF senson. I could just buy the upper intake piping ($75), but then I need an adapter ($15) and a K&N filter ($35). I would end up spending almost as much as the CAI kit itself. By buying the CAI kit, I don't have to destroy my stock intake system in order to remove the resonator and if I don't like the setup, I can always just install the rest of the CAI kit and make it a true CAI. Any comments on my proposed setup?

im using the intake piping and filter from a 90-93 accord, runs just like the stock but with the poilshed piping, you'll need an adapter too, or you could modify the brass one in your airbox.

i paid $35 on ebay for it.

Yes just run the CAI pipe from the MAF to the cone filter. No need for the tubing from TB to MAF. I dynoed a gain of 14fwhp/9fwtq average from 4000-5500rpm with a CAI over a cone filter intake on my 87 maxima. Even though your intake manifold is different you should see somewhat simular gains. You could put your theory to the test http://www.dynojet.com/lauto.shtml. Other than myself no one else has dynoed a pop style intake vs CAI on a VG/VE 3rd gen.

I agree - try talking to Dan or Dallas and they may (or probably, they're good guys) be willing to just sell you what you want.

I had pics of it but I lost them but I still have my timeslips. With a cone filter intake +stock timing I dynoed 110fwhp/137fwtq. My baseline dyno with K&N panel and *5 timing advance was 112fwhp/140fwtq. With the cone filter my best at the drag strip was a 17.0 @ 79mph with a 2.5 60ft. With the CAI I ran a 16.7 @ 81mph with a 2.44 60ft. Matter of fact my 1/8 ET was 2 tenths better and 2mph higher.

buy the warpspeed cai so you get both, go to the track and run a few times time both setups, i usually run the cai in my day to day grind because most time is spent in the low/mid where the cai lives
