front speakers
i need new front speakers. what does everyone recommend? I want something with really crisp sound. doesnt need a lot of bass because i have subs. whats the best size to put in the front doorS? i know i need to make a mounting bracket. would it be a good idea to use the old bose box that is in the door and switch the speaker with one that fits? or would it be better to go with a mounting bracket? thanks
It all depends on how much money you want to spend.. what's your budjet on speakers? do you have an amp? what size?
If you don't have an amp, are you planning on installing one later? how big, what kind?
what kind of sound do you want? loud, clean, both?
I would recommend going with 6.5" speakers up front.. yeah you'll have to make mounting plates for them, but that's no big deal.
as for recommendations, it all depends on the above stuff..

so 6.5 . I'm not running them off an amp and dont plan on it. I have two 12's. i want really clean sound that is crisp and can be played loud. I'm thinking I want to spend 100-150 on them. I'll probably buy them off of ubid.com or something.
If you've got a pair of 12s and you want something loud up front, you're pretty much gonna need to get at least a small amp.. most head units don't have enough power to drive a set of speakers loud enough to keep up with 12s in the trunk.
as for recommendations, look at Rockford Fosgate's 6.5" stuff. I built some door pods for Killermove's car, and he sent the speakers to me so I could fit them and make sure everything works... I installed the rockfords right next to my $500 Focal set, and they were amazingly close in comparison.. they held tons of power (my amp puts out 200wRMS/channel), yet still played pretty loud on lower power.. they'll still need an amp to get really loud though..
Pioneer also makes some pretty decent stuff. stay away from their cheapo stuff and the 4/5 way models.. jsut find a good 2 or 3 way model and look at those.. (they have some cheapo 2/3 way systems and some good 2/3 way systems.. the price will be the guide. if it's over $70-80, then they're gonna be pretty good.).
I paid around $70 for my first set of Pioneers, and they took a hellacious beating for about 3 years.. then I installed some better stuff in my truck and installed the pioneers in my sister's Accord.. that was 3 years ago, and they're still playing great in her car.

jay-bird..
they're basically just "wedges" that are the same size and shape as the factory speaker mounting plates, but they're stronger and will hold up to a 6.5" speaker. the stock plates are thin plastic and only hold a 4x6" speaker.
there are pictures on my website at:

When I get more time this summer, I may make several sets of these again and sell them off.. I made a few last year and the people were extremely happy with them..
Price will be about $50.
Shoot, I may even make some over christmas break if it's not too cold outside.. time to make a few more $ for mods.
