NA Z rims rubbing in back

my buddy GAVE me a set of 4 NA Z rims in perfect shape with good tires today. it's got 225 50 16's on em, and it rubs in the back. i was wondering if anyone else had this problem. or if i'm just special. I'm just keeping them on till i get my 17's from dex in 2 weeks. . . .

wheel spacers

you need 15mm spacers in the back. I asked mike because i was interested in putting those on as well. Are you keeping those rims for good? if so and you want to sell them drop me a pm. thanks.

Yup, spacers are required. 3/8" should be enough, but talk to Mike S, 8Ball, Bret, or some others..

I use 1/4" spacers. Worked fine and no rubbing. There is uneven tire wear on the inside however, but that is normal for these rims.

That'll be the same on any wheel with tires that wide mounted on our cars..

actually my rear camber is fine, but the fronts wear quickly...

is there any way to combat this uneven tire wear problem?

i also have this problem...they still rub with 3/8" spacers..225/50/16.

another thing, will 235/45/17 on 17x8" rims rub? i can get a better price on 235s than i can on 225, so i was just wondering.

What's the offset of the rims?

Ooh! Nice choice of rims. Cheap, but hot! I was looking at those too. Problem is, 38mm is right on the hairy edge. Partially through deduction and measurements by others, the range for 235 sized tires is usually said to be 35-30mm offset. Maybe if you got a narrower tire without a rim protector (increases width) it might work.... Kumhos for example.

Someone also asked this a long time ago and the advice given was it'd be close and that it'd depend on the tire (probably referring to the protector bead).

If it were me, today, I would try it (to experiment) assuming I got a protector-less tire and just monitor it for rubbing on big dips and hard corners. The kind of rubbing you get shouldn't be the tire-cutting kind I think (check to be sure but I think the surfaces around are smooth), and you can always wait for tire replacement time to downsize.

....Alternatively you could also spend the bucks and get 5mm H&R spacers and then they'd definitely fit... Some people have used washers too, but use at your own risk.

Ultimately it's your call.

EDIT: Have you tried talking to Nevin?

well, would i have rubbing problems in the front? i mean, i have a pair of 3/8" spacers, but if theres going to be rubbing i think it'd be in the back...as long as overall they're away from the strut like 1/4" in the rear. there is alot of room in the front with the Z rims, so i'm not really worried about that unless the 235 bulges alot.

on a side note, i asked nevin what he was running, i think he said 215/45..but i can get a pretty good deal (to me anyway) on 235/45 over the originally planned 225/45, so i was just wondering if it was worth $8 a tire less to get the 235 (thats right, the 225 is a different series[falken GR beta FK451] but $104..the 235(ziex ze-502) is $96.)
