Antifreeze leak question

Hey... A couple days ago I woke up in the morning and noticed a big puddle of antifreeze near the passenger side tire of my car. I didnt drive my car for about 2 days because my dad and I were doing the BMW light conversion. Today I drove the car for a little and expected the engige temperature to rise and possibly overheat but it never did. And I can't really tell, but it looks like the dripping uder my car has stopped. Any have an idea what is going on? Thank You!!!

why did you even drive your when you thought your coolant was leaking, unless of course you're bring in to be fixed.

Re: Re: Antifreeze leak question

I didnt drive too far and besides it's my only form of transportation and I had to get somewhere. Is there any reason why it would just stop leaking?

Did you check the waterpump? The area where you said the puddle was sounds like waterpump territory.

And no, leaks don't have to be constant.

Yup, it sounds like the water pump. I have the ve, I'm not sure about the vg water pump. but anyway there is a weep hole that is an indicator that the seal in the pump is going (that what mine did made a small puddle when starting up, then once the seal heated and expanded it sealed up). If it is the pump go ahead and do the timming belt and thermostat + new coolant. It's a good amount of work especially if its your first time but there should be some tutorials out there to help you out.

Yes, sounds like the waterpump. I can't tell if you're a VG or VE, but I have a complete VE replacement writup on my site that I performed. It can be a project.

It's a VG. Cool, I'll check out your site because I would rather do it myself than pay TONS of money at a shop. I called my friend at Nissan and told me it would cost atleast $600 to do everything. WOW!

I don't have a write up for the VG and have never done my own. If you're going to have it replaced, you mine as well have your timing belt, timing belt tensioner, thermostat, and seals replaced if needed. Since the waterpump is such a cheap part, it is normally done with the timing belt. I recommend going Nissan with the pump because I've heard others squeal.

How many seals are there, just 2? I looked on the CourtesyParts website and looked uner the 60k tuneup kit and it basically listed everything I would need if I was going to change the water pump. It only lists 2 seals which are, the camshaft and front crankshaft. Aren't there others that need to be done or not? And I was also told that I should do the drive belts and the ones listed were for, Compressor, Fan/Alt. and Power Steering. I'm gonna try to do this on my own with some help from my dad. So if there is anything else that I'm gonna need could you please list it. So far it's: timing belt, tensioner, thermostat, water pump, seals and drive belts.
