I called my local Nissan dealer and asked him about sparks for my 1994 GXE and he said to use the NGK non-platinum ones that are $2.99 a piece. Should I use those? I hear everyone is getting platinums...

you should only get platinums if you have a ve.
And since you got yourself a vg, get the normal ones. There are some people complaining that the platinum plugs are bad for the vg.

Why $50?
at GiJoes there is a pack of (4) Bosch Platinum +4 plugs for $16 i think it was. they are normally about $4 or $5 a piece? whats the difference between these and some $50+ plugs?

That's because the most widely recommended plugs for non-VG engines is OEM-type NGKs. Not any old platinums, no matter what other brand they happen to be. The OEM NGKs are verrrry pricey, but are the best.Originally posted by MrGone

Im used to V8's and stuff and the Platinum +4's worked very well. anyway im guessing that NGK is a brand? also how do they compare, how are they different?

Oh hey, i just removed the air silencer, i think. bet that sounds pretty bad. no really its the piece that connects to the stock box and goes to behind the head light right? also on that piece it has an "attachment" or something that goes down and bends about 90* to the front of the car, its a closed tube that is about 2" in diameter, what is the point of that? my moms 1998 Outback has it two, just in a different place and i swear it looks like a handle made just to help you yank the whole intake off. anyway, the other thing i noticed is that when i rev the engine in neutral, when i get above 1500rpm it will make a hissing noise and it will go back down much faster than if i only go to 1500. also the hissing noise is there about 2300rpm and above when im driving and i can only hear it if the windows are open and generally if there is something to direct the sound back at me when im driving. this isnt something new i just was wondering if someone could explain it to me. thanks again
