Air conditioner freon disposal?
Was wonderin if any one has info on how to remove the ac compreser, I mean in regards to the freon, because I know that the lines are under pressure, and that the freon is poisones in the pressanse of an open frame. But has any one just emptied theirs outside, or should I not do that, if its illigal or something?I don't really need air conditioning up here in Alaska so I'm gonna get rid of it.Thanks for any info.

visit your local mechanic and ask them to evcuate the freon from your AC. have them give u a vocher or credit on the freon in case you want to put it back in when you're done.
DO NOT release it into the air.

Year?
R-134a is toxic, even in small quantities. Venting to the air, even if no one can tell is ANTI-SOCIAL. DanNY is right on. Take it to a mechanic, and have him recover it. If your system is 92 or older, the R-12 in it wil cost $40-50 per pound to replace (a full system holds about 2.2 lbs). So it has value if properly recovered.
