VTC sprokets

I have heard from several about the problems inherent with VTC sprokets. Does anyone have the steps, methods involved in disabling the system completely. I have heard that the system can be disabled with no noticable affect to performance/emissions/mileage. I had both sprokets replaced (at the dealership) maybe 4 years ago for $1500 and still have the old parts. Now the clicking is beginning to start all over again. For me, the car is nice but not worth putting down that many clams again for replacing a part that Nissan KNOWS is defective.

If anyone knows of a way to disable the system (ie leaving the VTC system in the off position) please advise.

Thanks

btw, i got the O rings.... so i took out my vtc's
sprayed them out real good with brake kleen and sprayed
out all the oil gallies as good as i could with the stuff
i also took a small brush and tried to clean them out from the
angle... anyway, i looked at the old o-rings and they were
conical shaped like that other guy said, so i replaced them

unfortuntately one of my VTC's cracked in half when i
reinstalled them... (I wasn't even tightening them hard)
funny thing is they've been quiet as ever... no clattering
no ticking, or they do very rarely (knock on wood)

wow dude it actually cracked . thats dissapointing, they are'nt that cheap either. Well Its good you were able to do the job. I'm not sure spraying brake clean down there was all that great of an idea though. You could have just used WD-40 and a small tooth brush, would have been good enough. I didnt clean mine at all, with visual inspection the gallie looked fine.

yeah, you should have seen the oil i drained out...
btw i was bored when refilling the oil so i tried
pouring the oil into the VTC holes instead of through the
oil filler cap hole in hopes of trying to flush them out further

don't think it worked, but any thoughts on this?

Thats normal, a good oil filter will prevent oil from flowing back due to the anti-drain back valve. This is one of the problems, when the oil drains back on it own after shutting the car down, the thin film of oil left in the upper oil gallie can then bake on, forming the crud.

ok time to **** off matt and some of you guys.
seeing as its 12:21am theres no way in hell im going to search so here it goes, before I go (tobed that is).
I was over at a friends showing him my max blah blah blah. anyway, its the first time i had teh engine on with teh hood open, funny thing, i figured out that the fans were going on and off, ok sounds stupid, but im tired and i just never was out side of my car while it idled for more than a minute or two.
now for the real part. when i had the good ol hood open (me having to hold it ofcourse, damn blown strut ), I got to hear a small ticking noise. this is where you get ****ed off (maybe), now i was thinking about that; now seeing as i do read, mostly skim until i actually need the info, i heard that ticking and then i though.. "crap, vtc's?" then my friend said that its not my VTC's, instead he said valves just having theyre fun, opening and closing, doing theyre own thing. then I was like "hot damn" cause this kid doesnt know much, but knows enough. so what do you think? cause obiously by the spelling of "obiously" and how ive probably made almost no sense at all, im tired, so is the noise VTC's or happy valves?

Ticking could be lifters, VTC or injectors. Try using a listening tool http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ght=listening.

It's most probably your injectors.
