Brake Squeal, yeah I searched

Hey guys,

I know that this question comes up a lot for Maxima's, I just got done doing the search. But to everyone that has a 3rd gen whose brakes squeal, what did you do about it??? If you are just going to tell me to search, please just keep to yourself, thanks. I'm thinking of buying new performance drums and rotors. I'll do anything to get rid of that brake squeal. When it rains, or is wet out, it is unbearable how loud they squeal . It's embarrasing to have a sweet car, but then to hear the brake noise when you roll up

Thanks, later,
Joel

that only way to get rid of the squeal of the drums is to get rid of the drums.

I went through 2 sets of drums and about 5 different brands of shoes and nothing fixed them.

search for "rear disc conversion". lots of useful info there.

i have this same problem, I have a ve though (no drums)!! My brake pads (da green ones) are brand new and i have squealing as well as a whole lot more brake dust than ever b4. My brakes squeal even when i'm not applying the brakes!! Don't really know what to do about it, but I'm trying my best to wait for my rims so i can do the big brake upgrade, but until then, squeal mobile will be running wild!!

if it is constant then you may have a stuck caliper up front or wheel cylinder in the rear (if you have drum brakes)

or you just may be down to the end of your pads and the wear indicator is rubbing occasionally.

you may even have a warped rotor.

You just need to take a look at the brakes and see whats up.

Would you know which way to place the brake pad (the one with the metal tab sticking out on one side) for the wear indicator to work properly? or does that piece even have anything to do with the wear indicator?

Yup could be the pads are worn down to the wear indicators(if so equipped).

Squeal is high frequency vibrations. You can either try to dampen them or eliminate the source of the vibrations. Both discussed before.

metal piece..wear indicator
goes on piston side of brakes.

Thanks, the piston-side upper corner? Just Brakes put it on the outer side which was confusing me.

the rotor and the brake pad is curved a certain way.
it only fits a certain way...i've see the clip on top and i've see the clip at the bottom.
just install the clip pad on the piston side and you'll be fine.

But performing the conversion actually yields nice, quiet results with the right pads
