Bad news...Courtesy Y2K FSTB...

Doesn't fit my VE auto. Goes on the car just fine. Nothing to modify. Bolt circle pattern is perfect. But the hood doesn't close! Arg! Gets with 3/4" of latching and stops. Tested it with a piece of electrical tape resting sticky-side up on the bar and it stuck to the frame in the middle of the hood about 1/3 of the way from the windshield. So much for nominating Bman as org member of the year. I'm now convinced that this car will NEVER have an FSTB.

Good thing I got one of the early VE FSTBs years ago.hehe. I just saw Bman's FSTB Sat. Fit like a charm. You sure the hood insulation is not hanging down? I know for a fac that my FSTB SLIGHTLY rests on the hood insulation but it just touches. Doens't dent the insulation at all or etc..

unfortunately, there aren't any fstb's that will perfectly fit a ve. i have one for the 5th gens in mine and it does touch my hood and push it up a bit when i close it. you can't see it. if it's not noticeable i would leave it on. i recently took mine off for a while to test for something and i immediately had to put it back on b/c the driving was so different (for the worse).

I just hammered a dent in the crossbeam on the hood so it won't rub. still does, so I just smashed the hood down over it.

ARRRRGGGGGHHHH!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried talking to some of the others who've bought this bar? How far off the intake manifold does it stick up? I'll compare the height to mine.

Sorry man

EDIT: I just realized you said "Courtesy" FSTB... what does yours look like anyway? Earlier last week I just assumed they got more of the kind that look like mine. Is it like the one on Lordrandall's page?

Not quite like that.. I'd already had this one and polished a mirror shine on it myself. it was my old courtesy one from my VG. I just stuck it in the vice and bent it a bit to fit over the engine. there's about 1/4" between the bar and engine. My hood already looks like a crushed tin can- been like that since the day I bought it. I'm not worried about bending the hood at this point. if/when I get the front end repainted, I'll put a new hood on and do something to make this bar fit better or buy a new one.

I took it off. There is no insulation at all because I'm in the process of putting the Folia-Tec mirror film on the underside of the hood.

It just clears all the ignition wires and coils. A/C hose wasn't even a problem except for the clip that holds it to the strut tower. I wouldn't want to get it any closer to the motor. It just made it. I did think of getting a chunk of the spport frame of the hood cut out but I think I've had enough of trying. Car is 8 years old. I've had it for 6 years and I've been messing with it for 5 of the 6. I think I'm calling it quits after the Carlisle and Hershey shows.

That's very very weird. Mine clears with lots of room to the engine, wires, etc. and it still only mildly rubs the hoodliner.... Maybe something is aligned differently in your car?

Try this

Before you give up on it, make sure that that the length of the bar (adjusted with the two bolts on the ends) is as short as can be. This will cause the bar to rest slightly lower in the engine bay. I had the same problem, although my bar is not a Courtesy (I got it in a group deal a little while ago). I have a 92 VE auto, and I got mine to fit fine with a tad of wrangling. Hope that helps.
