90 auto maxima wheel bearings

There is a grinding kind of noise coming from underneath the car on the driver side. When I go slow the car looks like it is going up and down unevenly. It is not a strut issue. I know it has something to do with the wheel hub bearing, maybe. I was told my front bearings were bad. I had a mechanic replace them but that dummy did not press them in with the machine press. He knocked them in himself with his tools. The problem was fixed for a about 3,000 miles but all of a sudden I hear a noise again but it is a little different than before and the ride is not that smooth. How can I have chicks in the car like that. Can anyone tell me if they experienced this problem and what did they do.

one more thing. The mechanic was also trying to tell me that my axles might be bad but I think he was trying to squeeze money out from me. They do not make any noise when I turn. The boots are fine but he said they move up and down while driving because he had it on the lift but in my mind I said to myself that it's normal motion for the axles.
