02 sensor tech question

Ok...i hooked up my o2 sensor to a oscilliscope today(to the white wire) and it showed 'lean' all the time, and the line had very small ripples in it and thats it. Wasnt regestering a voltage. Plus my 02 has 170k on it so im pretty sure its dead anyway. Well, being that a new one is 100 dollars special order from autozone, my question is--is there any difference in the signal this o2 sensor for my max sends than the signal any other 02 sensor sends? cuz i can get a regular heated 02 sensor for about 30 bucks and change the connector couldnt i if they send the same signal?
Thanks,
Ely T.

I highly recommend staying with an OEM or Bosch replacement sensor..
that $30 guy will probably last a few months at most. if you replace it with a bosch sensor, it'll last you another 100k miles.

Thats the thing..

they're all bosch sensors...and they all look the same except some are heated and some arnt. they're all about the same price too, except for the one for the maxima.

the reason it was showing lean was probably b/c it was cold and 02's dont work until hot. thats what the other two wires are for....to heat it up

I let the car run for 10 minutes before i did the testing
It was nice n' hot and it still read about .246 on my voltmeter constantly...and no changing voltage on the oscilliscope either

LOL, the O2 Sensor will only read stoich at a very specific reading. about 14.2:1 air/fuel ratio or something like that. Have you ever seen the lean/rich curve that the O2 Sensor has? it looks like an integral symbol.

Im not sure what you're trying to say...

but from what iv seen, a normal 02 sensor reading will jump from low to high voltage once it starts working. Every one iv tested does this, but mine when i hook up the voltmeter stays at .23_ all the time(with car thoroughly warmed up).
