yes thats a normal sound. but usually not heard inside the car. make sure everything (all the clamps) are tightened down

I have that noise only when i open my hood, you really shouldnt hear it from in the car or maybe thats just my exhaust or system.

I have a smaller one, its only because i took the air silencer off my stock intake.
however my dads durango, now theres an intake you dont want to mess with. its stock but on nice cold mornings, man little kids run to therye moms in fear, such a nice noise. sometimes I ride around with the tailgate open so I can listen to the exhaust rumble. (well actually its because I have partical board for my box, but anyway :P)
it looks cool, its like a spoiler, so much fun. i dunno, maybe im just wierd.
later

I have a similar sound w/ my stock airbox. I now have poor running engine accompanying. What causes this? I read a mention of an intake silencer. Where is this, and could it cause poor idle, power problems, engine outs, etc?

check your intake system for leaks.

Where should I check and how? I sprayed Carb cleaner on all the hoses checking for leaks. Where else should I spray?
