Motor Mounts

Finally intalled factory new motor and trans mounts..filled them with 80A durometer polyurethane 5 days before. All I can say is I love my car much more now. I thought my engine had a crappy idle. Well the new mounts cured many of my problems..rough idle, clutch chatter, wheel hop, oh..and the flopping back and forth of my drivetrain. The old ones were worse than I thought. The pin position of the rear mount was literally an inch lower than the new mount. I thought I had the wrong replacement part at first. Took me about 5 hours start to finish lying on my back with the car on ramps. I highly suggest filling them in to everyone. Even filled with the 80A, they feel a little too soft for my taste. I'm going to gut the old ones and fill them solid with 94 durometer poly. I may save them for use when more power comes into the picture, or sell 'em..any takers. FOund my exhaust leak too. Not the Manifold as I previously though. How relieved I was! Just the y-pipe to rear manifold connection. Nedd to put new studs in there. Alot easier than the rear manifold! With the new mounts, my other suspension problems are much more obvious now too..tie rod ends and LF ball joint. Rod ends go on this weekend. Finally some progress. After all repairs are made, my tranny is getting the full treatment..LSD, rebuild and cryo. I'll keep posting as the project developes.

Mike,

I have searched extensively about under hood chatter problems.

When I pull out in first gear I am getting a chatter until the clutch is fully engaged and I am moving. It also does it is second gear. I suspect it is a motor mount or the clutch. Does this chatter sound similar to what you heard with your motor mounts?

thanks,

Gary

Re: Motor Mounts

mike...

did you just offer mounts for sale? If you did, dibs. I am currently in school, in the dorms and so no diy for me. Full tranny and motor mounts? I definitely need to get those done before hitting the road again in december to houston.

hey Mike,

awesome that your chatter is gone. Im looking forward to fixing my chatter. How did you check to see if your mounts were pooched? i did the old put the parking brake on , and put the car in 1st and giv'er...engine moves maybe a inch or so, then put in reverse, same thing,,looks like a inch of movement... I could just dirty and replace them, but if there is any way to know if they are actually bad would be bettet than wasting money on new ones...

Okay, I'll bite. Where do you get the polyurethane and how much does it cost to do a set of 3 mounts? How does the 80 compare with the originals?

McMasterCarr.com

get 94A polyurethane. I still have my polyurethane lying in my trunk since last november cos I dont have replacement mounts for the downtime. Here is some info about getting it done.
