Weird Noise
Weird Noise
Guys, for about the past year or so (yeah, I know, I have been lazy), I have heard a sucking/rattling (can't really describe the sound) right in front of the driver under the hood (where it sounds like, anyway). I can't tell what it is cause it only makes the sound when hitting the gas and it doesn't make it all the time. I have looked everywhere to find where it may be coming from and I think I may have it. Please tell me if you think that this may be the target. It sounds like it is coming from a hole (about the size of a dime) in the exhaust system right after the first section of pipe curves to go under the car. I have been planning on replacing the entire exhaust with a Y pipe and catback system from GReddy or the WSP exhaust system. I just want to know if you guys think that the noise could be caused from it trying to suck up air through that damn hole.

you have a vg, so it might have something to do with the exhaust manifold/studs. search on that and you will find plenty of info. youre description of the problem isnt very specific, but it does likely have something to do with the exhaust.
Re: ok
Out of curiosity ... do you have a pop charger/ intake in your car?
the sucking nose could be the sound of your intake as it sits there...and as you accelerate.
the rattling could be something loose, which was holding that part...it could just be hitting up against something metal...
just my two cents....

If you think he needs to search, then you should tell him what to search for, (like you did below after your A$$hole attitude went away),
You assume he has this "obvious" problem, and needs to search, but you are wrong twice.
1. Like he said, he can't search when he doesn't know what is wrong,
and
2. Mr. Know-it-all, his symptoms don't HAVE to be broken exhaust manifold studs, it could several other things. That is why he asked, to see what we thought it was
For example...I get a noise like he describes sometimes from one (or more) of my lifters. It doesn't happen all the time, just when my oil is low.
Or, My timing cover was bent once, and it rubbed against a drive belt sometimes.
The whole "I can't help you until you read every post ever done" attitude is stupid.

Maybe people should check the "titles" of the members they are dealing with or responding to before they post the word SEARCH 40 times. Maximaniac means that you have been her a while, you're not NEW.
Once again, thanks.

I appreciate the backup. I have been a member for about 2 years now. I have contributed information and how-to knowledge on some things, I just wanted to know something for myself. Like I said and you mentioned again, I did not know what to search for. I read almost every single thread (except the boost ones -- they are of no use to me), and would have noticed something if it sounded like my problem.
