So like a fake alarm notifiyer? To make it look like you have a decent alarm installed?

I think he means the LED's that blink to let people know the car has an alarm.

Go search on ebay for "led scanners"..lots of them there at good prices.

Like Sudesh said, ebay sells 12v LEDs that blink and have a draw that won't drain your battery.

Thats why you're supposed to use them with alarm systems..makes it alot easier and effective.

I think the easiest thing is a switch.

A switch wouldn't do it, that would only allow him to control the on/off for the LED, not the flashing.

LED scanners are made to flash in whatever pattern they're programmed for just by connecting it to the power source. So all it needs is an on/off switch.

Use a relay. Relays are normally open (NO). When you energize them, the contact is closed (refered to as normally closed - NC). Wire the NO terminal in series with your LED and energize the relay with "juice" tapped off of your ignition power.

The result, if you do it correctly will be that when your ignition is on, the relay is NC meaning the loop between the LED and ground is broken. When the ignition is off, the relay is NO meaning you have a closed loop between LED and ground. The assumption here is that you wire your LED correctly to begin with or this won't work. Think of the relay as a switch to turn off/on your LED, instead of having a little lever to activate/deactivate the switch, you use a 12V source (your ignition). Think ignition on = LED off and vice versa.

Go to Craig's site for pictures/schematics on how typical SPST (single pole single throw) relays work.

All this said, why not just get an alarm???? But if you insist, people (ebay) sell fake scanners/blinking LEDs.

umm i think you have it backwards...why would u want the LED to blink while driving/engine on?

frankbattle have it right w/ the relay. once the power goes off the LED goes on.

The led looks great, now i have just installed a red flash-led
in the switch near the cruise switch.
Ordering for the laser led at ebay will be i think too late for me ,because i will in acouple of days make a big trip here in europe to some countries where they have more horses than cars ,so i am a little afraid they like my max to much, thats wy i installed this flash led.
My problem was the wirering.
I needed 12 volt when i stop the engine and and no 12 volt when i
start the engine (so led only workes when the car is parked)
this i found in the hazard switch wirering
I will see if i can get this laser led over here in Holland before
the trip i have to make.
thanks

Not sure what you did. Do you mean you have to turn the hazard switch on to make this work? If so, be careful as it may drain your battery if left that way for too long. Of course you may never have a problem since LEDs draw less current than hazards in general. Your flashing LED may draw more...

No i did not do anything to the hazard switch i just connected the
flashled to the red/white wire and to the red / green wire of the
hazard switch.
I used a low current led using only a few milliamps

I also would like to do this since I'm like poor and don't want to install an alarm until I have money for a good one...

How come the hazard switch would have a 12v power when the car is off and no power when the car is on?

... i guess its time to invest in a chilton manual huh?

I think what u want is, to connect the wires from the LED to the memory wire that goes into the stereo which saves saved radio stations and stuff like that. Power comes to this wire when you turn you car off. I think its yellow or orange, the package from the LED should tell you which wire it is if you don't have an alarm..

i did that and i installed a blue led scanner on the top by the rearview mirror so u can see the light through the front windshield and it is installed with an aftermarket alarm, i even got the keyless entry and trunk release from the key chain and the alarm is shock sensor, when a ricey civic or other are passing my car when it is parked my car alarm goes off and the blue led light looks pretty nice in dark...
