black gauges = gxe
you should also have chrome around the windows, a red rear strip - Im having a mental block on what this is called(on the trunk between the taillights) mine is black. Also I have the SE badging stamped on my brake light assembly in my trunk on the left hand side ( I think) you might want to check that on your car.

'Red strip'

I know for a fact ALL 92-94 Maximas have the 'red strip' between the taillights (where it says MAXIMA). The difference between the GXE and SE is that the SE taillights and strip are smoked black, whereas the GXE's are normal.

Not sure if older GXE's have a red strip, but older SE's are black between the headlights.

check out my sig pic... '93 SE

Re: Re: 'Red strip'

they didn't make a GLE until 95 +. for the 89-94's its either an SE or a GXE. I have a 90 SE 5spd (the on in the pict below) and a 92GXE auto, which is my daily driver.

Ok I do believe y'all are wrong, yes they did make the GLE model in '89-'94 models of Maximas. Rambo, you have a GLE. If anyone doesn't believe me the proof is the leather and the Bose. NONE of the GXE's had leather or Bose in them but it has to have white gauges to be an SE unless someone mods the gauges. Plus the GLE's of our year Maximas have an available sonar (electronically controlled) strut system. I know cause I've been told by the Nissan dealer.

There was NO GLEs in '89-94!!!!

And there were only a few 3rd gens with SonarII('89 was the last year as far as I know), trust me Nissan techs don't always know there stuff! Check any FSM, Chiltons, Nissan brochure from the early '90s THERE IS NO GLE model!!!!!! not till '95!!!!!

I think it more of a package than a model designation. GXE with the GLE package or something like that...

Ok that may be so, but someone should find out exactly what they called that model that has the leather and Bose that's not an SE. Also, just a question, has anyone ever seen those 3rd gens rollin' around that have the SE alloy rims and white gauges like an SE and Bose but have no spoiler on them and look like GXE's?
