possibly snapped the timing belt, but it's impossible to say without seeing the engine.
have the car towed to a shop and have a competent mechanic check it out. otherwise if you keep turning the engine over with a broken timing belt, it's possible that you'll completely ruin the engine.

FYI, the VG30E engine in your maxima is an interference engine. i.e. if the timing belt breaks or the cams stop turning and the crankshaft does keep turning, you will smash the tops of pistons into the bottoms of the valves. this is NOT good. i.e. you get to replace bent valves, usually the heads, and often the pistons too.

turns a $350 timing belt job into a $1500 engine replacement job.

I just got my timing belt and water pump changed 2 weeks ago, what else could it be and how much would it cost to fix

the rought idle before it died indicates that something happened to the engine.. if the timing belt was not done correctly, the tensioner may have come loose and caused the timing belt to jump a tooth or two on one of the cams. this could cause the car to run very poorly, or not to run at all.

It could also be a bad distributor cap or coil, or many other issues with the ignition, as all that has to be removed to change the timing belt.

Since the belt was just changed, I would make an initial guess that either the timing belt tensioner has come loose and the belt has slipped, or that something else on that side of the engine isn't functioning correctly.

Since you have a VG, you can't tell if the cams are turning like you could on a VE engine (92-94 SE Maximas). on the VE engine, the oil filler cap is directly over one of the cams on the front of the engine. you can crank the engine over and see it spin if you remove the cap. on your engine, the filler cap has a curved tube on it before you get to the engine. I don't think you can see the cam turning in there, but you may want to check. if you can see it turning, then it at least means the belt isn't broken.

I would still highly recommend calling the place that did the timing belt for you and get their input on things. It will probably take their help to get you back up and running, unless you have the tools and ability to replace the belt yourself.

Good luck.

Got another question for you. About my power locks they dont work, When I firsat got my car, and the days were very cold they would work for like 2 minutes, and now they dont work at all. When I press the lock/unlock button all I hear is a ticking sound under the steering wheel. All my other things work(windows) except the power locks What to do how much and who to do it.

Also about my engine problem. If it is not the timing belt, distributor, spark plugs, or spark plugs wires is their anything else it could be??????

Thanks for the help in advance

that's going to be your door lock timer.
if you know how to use a solering iron, remove it and resolder all the connections. if you don't have one or don't know how to use one, mail the timer to me and I'll fix it for a reasonable fee (cheaper than buying a new one anyway).

for directions on where it is and how to do everything, go to Craig B's FAQ page. the link to his website is posted in the FAQ thread at the top of this board.

if you want me to fix it, send me an email or PM and we'll work something out.

It could be one of a zillion things, but the most common problems are what I talked about earlier. those would be the first places I'd look. once all those things are eliminated, then come back and see if there's any other ideas out there.
