I guess they work in theory..mostly alcohol in there. Search the web on homemade octane boosters..most can be made easily from paint supplies (solvents) If you use this stuff frequently, you can make a few gallons for what you par for two bottles of the storebought stuff. If you must buy, the Outlaw stuff is supposedly very good. I used it when I advanced my timing..no pinging so I guess it works, but pricey. I usually stick with the cheapest on the shelf for this kind of stuff. They nearly all contain the same ingredients. Keep in mind, it will only bump octane MAYBE 1-2 pts. For what you pay for the "high quality stuff", you might as well get premium gas from the pump, assuming you usually run regular or 89 octane. Just my 2 cents.

In my opinion, octane boosters don't really work. But I haven't tested it so i'm speaking outta my ****. I don't see how a small bottle can treat 12 gallons of gas to make it even 2 octanes higher.

If you're using 93 octane gas, and you have 10 gallons in the tank, it would take 3 gallons of Toulene to make it 98 Octane. THREE GALLONS IS ALOT! and Toulene is alot more potent than "octane booster". So this makes me think octane booster is just a boost for your head, not your gas..

Don't waste your money on it..it's not cheap.

It does work

It does work, but it's not cheap. I suppose it's cheapter than NOS...but...

I had my timing advanced pretty far on my Maxima once and I added it to a tank full of Super Unleaded to stop the pinging.

It ran great. Low-end was excellent. But I rolled the timing back since then to run on regular gas again.

SUNOCO

i get it down NJ, 2 gallons of 100 octain.. (like every other month)
its 3.99 a gal. so 8 bucks is good for a good fuel system cleaning. my timing is advaced and you CAN feel.

Re: It does work

The topic isn't high octane gas..it's octane boosters.

it works.... or it does something i know that....

me and my cousin made a trip to houston for import revolution in his GST and afterwards we went to go racing on wetheimer and he used two cans of octane booster and he starting running pretty rich and his boost was spiking to 1.5 bar(roughly 22psi) on his lowest boost setting(10psi)soo

Actually, if you think about the chemistry involved...adding a small amount of much higher octane gasoline will have the effect of adding a few octane to the overall tank of gas.

Yay for college chem classes!

Re: Re: It does work

I had it advanced to 22 degrees BTDC. It ran great with 91 octane premium unleaded gas and octane booster, but I drive about 22,000 miles a year and it adds up.....so I turned the ignition timing back to stock (15 degrees BTDC) and back to 87 octane regular unleaded.

Not It's not quick as it used to be, but I still get good mileage (about 27-28 MPG).

octane booster doesnt increase boost nor makes you run rich.

many of the store bought 'octane boosters' can cause your exhaust manifold and engine internals to rust... so watch out

Hmm this is a weird subject. I don't know if you guys have heard of it but there is a group of people that throw like 150 shots of nitrous on rental cars and go nuts with them. Long story short....For suplemental fuel they use the winsheild wiper fluid resivour and fill it with dry-gas (mostly iso-alcohol) then some how patch it into the feul system.
Now that I have typed this I forgot how this related to the topic. Oh yeah thats right just use dry-gas it is a hell of a lot cheaper and has a simular effect.

And if you ever read the bottle labels of octane booster they specificly say it has the effect of boosting octane
(in the fine print). I have almost never seen a octane booster that says it actualy boosts the octane rating of the gas
