Finally got a 92SE, with LOW miles
Yup, just got back to rainy Illinois from sunny Fort Lauderdale FL with my almost new 1992 SE (auto) in that off-white-metallic color. No more 93 GXE for me!!!
No leather, but I think nobody had used any other seat but the drivers side. even it looks like new. The floor mats are clean, and it was not a smokers car. There is NOT a mark on the exterior, its perfect.
However, there are some problems. The car had been sitting for about a year without being run.
For only having 60,000 miles on it... here is the list.
1) Shifter link bushing (I had this replaced at dealer before trip)
2) Gas filler tube cracked (I had this replaced at dealer before trip)
3) needs rear brakes
4) Front left driver window regulator doesn't work
5) Rear left window motor doesn't work
6) Bose HeadUnit doesn't work
and the big one
7) the *@&^$% VTC's are making noise like a ****...
I'm going to ground them tomorrow, but they are really bad. Even after the car is warm, it is still going.
Anyway, I'm happy!!! (i think)
Anyway, I'm

oh well as far as the new 92 is concerned congrats good luck...60k that is excellent. The window regulators/motors dont worry thats a common problem on these cars i only had to replace one. As far as the bose deck, sweet jesus just rip everything out and upgrade with aftermarket its so much more worth it. I attempted to repair my Bose system when it bit the dust back around xmas '01 but i got too fed up with wasting time troubleshooting it i just decided to get all new speakers, head unit. VTCs, if they are really annoying its a good idea to ground them for temporary and then get them rebuilt.

The VTC's are REALLY annoying. When they get really bad th do they make noise even after the car is warm, but kind of intermittently? Its bugging me now... I know its not a bad cylinder, because the car is strong as hell... I'll ground them tomorrow.

The VG has mountains of low end torque. The VE seems to has all its power above ~2500. After you get started, the damn thing is a rocket. Its also a much smoother engine. I like the way it sounds, when I can hear it over the VTC's...

hahahaha, remember I've got a 93 GXE... I know how they perform, so I'm not racing until the new ride is not stock!!!

As James said welcom to the ve auto club...I like my auto but then I didn't buy a Maxima to race it. I have other cars for that
Good luck with it. I wander if the sitting up is what caused the vtcs to tick...try looking at the o rings around the solinoid to see of they were dried out or something from sitting up.

Before you ground the vtc's,
-Run a good motor flush (could still be sticking lifters)
-Clean the connectors on the solenoids (really well)
Grounding them isn't cool at all, the low end torque will be near gone.

Well, too late... But it can be undone. It was not sticking lifters.
The connectors are dirty as hell, but cleaning them didn't do a thing. So I went ahead and did the ground. It shuts them up alright. THe low end doesn't suffer as much as I thought. But the car doesn't run as smoothly. It kinda seems rough now. I'm calling my mechanic this week and asking about a repair.
