but.. i heard of one VE running 14s stock.. this was Czar.. maybe there were others.. but there have been quite a few VQs hitting 14s stock.. VEs are slower by a bit, but not by much.. VQs have more torque and are lighter.. VE autos seem to be real slow compared to it's 5 speed performance.. the VQ autos aren't that much slower in general. The VG is the slowest maxima.. no offense to VG people.. all maximas are good and the 3rd gens styling is great.
You are correct the VE auto is much slower than the 5spd version and is much slower than a VQ auto the difference is much closer Vq auto vs VQ 5spd. I think the VE auto was the worst performer/combination in recent Maxima History. I did love the VG autos although for their great low end and have heard of them matching VE auto's.

That is certainly true when it comes to 60' times. The VG autos have always had much better low end torque. I had to mod mine out to make mine launch the same as a VG Auto. I bet a stock VG Auto can hang with me until 20 mph. But, after that, it's nasty, it's a whole different story.

And as for a stock VE Auto vs VG Auto, it is possible for a VG Auto to run right next to it up to 60 mph. Especially when the VE is heated up and is not as fast as when it's cool.

did 14.4 a couple times in my 92 se 5spd
did a 14.3 at best, in 100+ degree heat too!

13.6-13.8 on a 50 shot

the 3rd gens are lighter then the 4th gens.

yea agreed 3rd gens own the styling category but what good is the "show" if theres not enough "go"? Maybe because my VE is an auto but still cmon id expect a little more thrill from it than what i currently get. It has been well maintained by the 1st owner and me; no VTC trouble, recently had an oil change, throttle body clean a couple of months ago, new fuel filter about a month ago, and i put in 2 bottles of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner last week after the oil change. Result? - My 0-60 time is still around 10 seconds, i cant seem to do any better than mid-high 9's and i still get around 13-15 MPG with moderate "city" driving around town to/from school and work basically

I don't know too much about third gens. But one particular third gen. ALWAYS stands out in my mind. At the San Diego meet last summer, a group of us got together. It was mostly 4th gens. but there was this one 3rd gen. I'll never forget. I'm embarrassed to say I don't even remember his name. A very quiet, modest fellow with one hell of a car. It was gray, BMW headlights, Fuba antenna, two-tone leather, shaved emblems, nice rims, Stillen ground effects, etc., etc. Well we all went to Carlsbad Raceway and about half of us ran while half didn't. I chose not to that day. So did the guy I was telling you about. So we are all in the stands watching. After a few hours, he gets up and disappears. Next thing I know he is at the tree lined up against a Mustang! It was an older Cobra. Light turns green, he smoked the Mustang. Next thing I know, he is back on the bleachers sitting down with us. I'm assuming he had NOS but damn, it was cool to watch. I didn't get his time because there is no display board and the announcer wouldn't say it every time and when he did, it was hard to hear. I gained a lot of respect for gen. 3. I believe he was from Arizona, anybody know him by chance?

Well, thats like one 3rd gen out of 500,000. The rest are usually worn out and running high 15s at best.

i ran a 14.8, but i'm hoping to get 14.5's and 14.4's next time out.

dude nealoc i was VERY impressed with your times. i coulnd't believe you can pull times like you were with such little done! anyway, my best time stock was a 15.2 i've only been to the track once (when nealoc and briguy were there) and it was not what you'd call the best conditions. it was like 55 degrees and drizzle. i ran a 14.8 but my trap speeds were as slow as they were when i was stock. I think there's something not quite right with my car. I dunno if it's injectors or coils or what. but i have like 137k miles. so what can ya do. anyway, i'm hoping for lower 14's next time i'm at the track. I just thought i'd clarify why i think i can hit lower times. track and weather conditions just sucked that day!

I have the opposite problem fly. I have a lame 1/4 time with an insane trap speed. I just don't get it. It was 14.76 s @ 100.1 m.p.h.. Doesn't add up.

Maybe your right but add ~50lbs sound deadener, ~75lbs speakers/box, 40lbs amps, and 200lbs me and a full tank of gas and it goes up maybe a stock 3rd gen even with the iron block is lighter but it sure is slower.

As a note.....I keep reading this and I'm scratching my head. I race my friend who has a 1999 SE with an Automatic. I have a 94 SE (VE Motor) With a 5 speed. His is stock and mine has a wsp CAI in it. I clean his clock all of the time. no official times but, I will have him by a car length or 2 and still running away over about a quarter mile. I don't know where this info is coming from about the VQ sumpremity but....I have to argue. anyways.....my .02 cents

You beat him everytime b/c they run very high 15's and you run low/mid 15's. Try racing against a VQ 5spd. I bet it will be a different story.
