Would it be better if i took my max to a maxima dealership do get it checked out (tune-up, oil changes, tranny fluid change, etc etc) or would a good old pep-boys or autozone be good?
only the best for my baby

Dealerships are not all what they are cracked up to be. I took mine to a dealership ONCE. Asked them to diagnose my engine miss. Called in the afternoon and asked what they had found...looked at the plug wires..that's it..didn't even check under the dist. cap! They ripped me off in another way too but I'll spare you. Just do yourself a favor, buy good plugs, wires and dist cap and put it in yourself. I used to work at Strauss Auto, when people brought a car in for a tune-up, all we were required to do was clean and gap the plugs or replace..for $50!! Everything else was extra..try explaining that to a customer. I used to sell them plugs, sell them an oil change and install the plugs for free. I couldn't bring myself to charge 50 for that. Aside from ignition stuff which is very easy to do, change the oil, fuel filter and air filter, and dump some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank..that's it, unless you want someone to check the timing with a light. A fair shop will do that for nothing. Have you had a timing belt put on it? I hope so if you are at 150K! If not..do it PRONTO Tonto. That's my advise..no more dealerships for me.

You can do at lot of basic maintenance yourself with little to no prior experience. Just buy a Chilton's, Haynes manual, or a Factory Service Manual. Follow the instructions and don't get in a hurry. You will be fine. Ask us if you run into problems. People get told to search a lot around here but not if you are knee deep in grease and need help!
