Roaring like noise from front right wheel

Has anyone ever had a roaring or whiring like noise coming from the wheel? Kinda sounds like a cupped tire but much louder. When I took it to the shop today, they said the tires were not cupped but the bearings were making the noise and needed to be replaced. But he said it doesn't give when he tried to move the tire while on the rack. So I am thinking maybe it's not the bearings. Maybe the tire is cupped and they just don't want to replace them, for free since I just got them in March. I don't hear any clanking noise, ticking, metal to metal noise, just a roaring noise.

Any ideas?

My guess from other front wheel drive cars is that it is your wheel bearing. If it isn't your wheel bearing, and you have 170,000 miles on the original bearings, it wouldn't hurt to replace them anyway, while your under there messing around. It is NOT nice to have a wheel bearing go. Mine didn't make any noises until 5 miles before it let go, on the freeway none the less. The brake assembly pretty much shattered when the car hit the ground from the wheel falling off, not to mention the rotor was shredded, and I backed up traffic for miles on I-5N just before Delta Park. If you even think it might be the wheel bearing replace it.
