well if it's your timing belt then you basically have a expensive paper weight for a engine.

well i hope all that's wrong is you lost the belt, but you're scaring me! i need to change mine soon or it's just gonna pop off cause i'm getting so worried. that's #1 on my to do list before i go away this fall. that, new brakes all around, alignment, and FSTB(yay, a real mod, not just maintenance). then i'll be good to go (or start modding i should say)

if you really ****ed up the engine, and are going to get a new one, i am searching for a giant paperweight to take apart and learn on.
thanks and I hope it isnt very bad, but generally if your timing belt goes, your valves will stay open and smack your piston head causing bent valves and alot of other bad stuff.
good luck

Yep. He's right! VG's have one t-belt, while the VE's have a chain (well, actually 2, but who's counting??).

3, for real? When I bought my car, the chain had broke, so when I dug through the engine I only saw (and bought - in case someone wants to buy them, I've still got 'em) two!

Yup, there's three. Remember the VE has dual overhead cams, so it would be damn near impossible to wrap one chain around a crank sprocket, then TWO cam sprockets in each cylinder head. One chain is on the block, and is wrapped around the crank sprocket on the bottom and around two idler sprockets, one at the top of each bank of cylinders. On the actual cylinder heads, there are two cam sprockets, whose chain wraps around these and the idler sprockets. The whole thing is in the shape of a Y.

Well first of all, the timing belt wouldn't come flying out of the car unless the tensioner came off and broke the cover, but that's pretty unlikely. Normally you don't feel the belt snap, you might have felt the Valves hitting the pistons that's always a great sound. Good luck man, I really hope that it didn't break.
