What should I BUY? maxima or acura?

I have the chance to buy a 1993 Maxima SE 5spd with 180,000 mile on it, Or a 1990 Acura Legend auto with 123,000 miles.
What should I buy? What will last me longest with the least amount of repairs? I am fond of the maximas but the acura has less miles.
Both vehicles are in very good condition with everything working.
Neither vehicle has had any transmission problems that I know of.
Both seem to be maintained over the years.
Any advice would be great.
Thanx

The acura legend has a smaller aftermarket than the maxima imo. That may be something you want to consider.

get the maxima

people on this forum will give an arm to get thier hands on a VE 5-speed. my cousin has a 96 (? somewhere around there ?) legend coupe. my car can pull pretty easy on it with the mods that i have. tilt is also right about maximas having better aftermarket support. IMHO i think the maxima (ESPECIALLY a 5-speed) is faster than the legend. both cars are very reliable.

if both cars are in the same condition, i would get the maxima. plus maximas are sleepers. good luck and keep us posted if you get (or don't get) the maxima (b/c i want it )

just a concern...why are there so many 92 and 93 5 speeds compared to 94 5 speeds? Was there some kind of production cutdown on them in 94? 90% of all the 94s i see are GXEs

Nissan V6's are known for their high mileage reliability but there is another upside. Rebuilding your own engine is pretty cheap as long as its done before any major break down!! When you do that rebuild that engine, you can do some internal mods, and then you have a sleeper, even to other maxs'

Re: What should I BUY? maxima or acura?

well like he said about the big mac thing, you're on a maxima board, people are gonna tell you that.
with that said, i don't really know the VE that much, but the VG is very reliable, i don't really ever hear of the VE being talked about that much in that respect. but that doesn't really concern you. but if you're really worried about miles, 123K is a lot too. so the biggest factor is probably the tranny, which woul dyou rather have(at least the max doesn't have an auto...)personally if i needed a new car, i would go with the max, not only because i have one now (93 GXE auto) but because i really do honestly think it is a very good car in all respects and looks very nice (better than the acura (or any acura or honda))my $.02

IMO I say get the legend....180k is a LOT of miles!! and if not taken care of meticulously it might not be such a good investment. even if it was a VG, 180+ is way to much to start out with IMO!!

Oh well. All 180,000mi meant was that it had been broken in. At least we hadn't totally lost you. You said you'd get one someday.

Just out of curiosity, what would anybody guess the cost to be to have the pistons re-ringed? To have the crank seals and bearings replaced? Nothing wrong, knock on wood, but I'm just wondering if anybody's had this done and how much it cost them.

I doubt he has a 96, since they only made the Legend til 95. Does he have a auto or 6spd? If he has a auto, it might be a close match for your 5spd, but he'll definitly pull on you on the highway, since Legends have a strong top end. If he has a 6spd, then you should have no chance unless he can't drive a stick.
