my tranny and clutch are out???

my tranny is leaking fluid and ruined the clutch. 659$ for a used tranny at a recycling yard or 1000$ to fix my tranny and 434$ to fix clutch. this includes everything. I am a struggling college student so I have no way to afford this. Should I
1.Save the car until I can afford to repair it, then repair it 2.use the car as a tax right off by donating or 3. sell the parts and whatever else

If you are a struggling college student I dont think a tax writeoff would help at all. If you plan to sell it as is, with a good body expect ~1k for it. Maximas just dont sell well as shell cars (unlike hondas, etc). Hope this helps in your decision.

What kind of fluid are you leaking??? Is it tranny fluid or brake/clutch fluid? If it's clutch fluid your slave (release)or master cylinder probably took a crap on you.Check your clutch fluid level..is it low? Is it empty? If that's the case, you most likely won't be needing a tranny replacement. Look into it and let me know.

it is leaking tranny fluid I know this because the main seal is paper thin and should be 1/8 of an inch thick. I may just keep the car until after college when I can afford the fix it. 3rd generation maximas are known for weak seals and poor trannies but engines will last 300,000 miles. So rebuild the tranny and get a good clutch job and I will continue driving it after I can afford those repairs.

Should I keep or sell my max??

I got an 89 SE that needs a rebuilt or used tranny and needs a new clutch. I love the car and would like to keep it but I just want to know if a rebuilt tranny and new clutch costing 1500$ is worth the money on my 89 SE which hasnt had nay big problems, havent modified it yet and its my first car and I dont want to let it go.

Thank you,

andrew

can a 91 SE tranny really swap with an 89 SE??

if a 89 SE tranny swaps with a 91 SE tranny then swapping my bad 89 SE with a 91 SE tranny would be a good idea right?? because it is probably better being newer and probably has better mileage and constructed better??

please help my tranny is toast

thanks,

ANdrew

Only if the other tranny is good. If just marginal, get it rebuilt. Just because it's newer, doesn't mean it's in better condition.

yes it will work fine...either swap will work 89->91 or 91->89

rebuilt for $1k....simply for the obvious fact that it is REBUILT, has a warranty and all replaceable parts are new!!
