HEY Nissan!>?

Does anyone agree that if Nissan made a car that looked similar or just like our 3rd gens on inside and out with their newer 17" Rims and maybe a 1 touch sunroof with the best part of their newer cars in it The 255 hp VQ engine and a 6spd that it would like the best deal on the market for performance/styling in a sedan BY FAR!
Nissan should combine: Go back to the 3rd gen styling with the new rims and Use their New badass engine and they would have the baddest car on the market hands down. Ive seen a sneak shot of the new 2004 max and it looked like an altima on steroids (I.E. not good)

I agree but it wouldn't sell. What they should do is make a kit available that will allow us to mount a 2002 drivetrain into our 3rdGens.

I think that is a good idea, but in the styling they would have to update the very front a bit, BUT not round everything like the did, The 3rd gen looks so good because it has the sleek straight Italian lines like Pinninfarina. Thy went to the bubble look like everyone else, and lost that fast look. They just need to straighten things out a bit and it will look better

The 6th Gen Maxima and the Altima are going to be based on the same design. Nissan is moving the Altima up to where the Maxima is now and the Maxima is going to start being a car that starts in the low to mid 30s. I heard a rumor about a V8 from the Nissan dealer??

yea, very true, i've heard that the Altima is going to be takin' over the Maxima's spot and the 6th gen max is goin to be the same type of car as the Q45 is now, that size, just not as expensive, (thus, nissan vs. infiniti)

I heard that too , but then I talked to Dan aka BlueFish here on the .org, he works at a nissan dealership and said that the engine is staying on the g35 platform and the car will still be a fwd v6. and the se limited( I think) will have 4 bucket seats and a console that runs from the front to the back. and two stripes of glass down the roof (like racing stripes)

I agree the front end would need a little freshening, but the back can't look any better. They went from BMW like styling to the bubble look, but the 4th gens only look better now because they are newer cars. It would sell with a facelift, look at BMW and Porsche, they've had the same style with minor chnages for decades now.

the best combo would be 5th gen/2002 technology + 3rd gen style

The new sentra v spec have a similiar body shape to our 3rd gens plus they come with 17's. Too bad they only come with 175 hp 4 bangers.

Re: HEY Nissan!>?

that would be sweet!! but as good as it sounds to us, its all about change and to the public our 3rd gens are outdated(eventhough they were already advanced for their time)....financiallty Nissan would go down the gutter since probaly only Maxima enthusiats and people in the know would buy them!

I completely agree. I wonder who is ultimately responsible for all these damn new "round" cars. It has to be the design schools that the car designers have graduated from. Screw the "futuristic" look!. It seems like after the mid 90's everything went down hill for most manufacturers, in terms of styling. Nissan should have stayed true to the 3rd gen design and just updated it along the same lines of new BMW's. Don't you guys agree? I mean, if they used the same EXACT 3rd gen design I think it probably would go down the drain as far as non-enthusiasts are concerned. However, if they kept that square BMW look and slightly improved on it then I think the Maxima would sell so much better and be much more appreciated. I still think Nissan should have made the Maxima RWD to begin with. There is always ways they could have designed the suspension, drivetrain and exhaust around this. Can you guys imagine how awesome Maximas would be if they were a 3rd gen-similar body style and RWD?!

The only car manufacturers, I think, that have new cars with great style are usually the damn expensive ones (BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, etc). There are some new cars from other manufacturers that I like but in general everything seems to suck pretty bad. As always, it seems like I have to live in the past due to the lack of charisma that most newer cars have. My friend recently bought a '00 Sentra and keeps talking about all these new cars and that he wants to trade it for a SER. I quietly laugh when I think to myself that I drive a 11yr old sedan that has yet to be surpassed in beauty by any new concoction from Nissan (as far as 4dr's are concerned).

Altima is real.

The 2002 Altima SE V6 5 speed is a pretty good answer to the 3rd gen (although 10 yrs late) IMO. It is a bit let down by cheap interior details, poor shift quality and torque steer, but you would have a hard job findind a manual equipped sport sedan with that kind of styling and performance for even close to the same sticker. I was seriously looking at the new Altima before I got the new car payment *******. It is for real.

Yeah, I also like those new Altimas. They are very nice, as well as the new G35 but I just don't like all these new clear round tail lights. Damn Lexus for inventing them!

I think the rice boys invented them (clear rears), Lexus was just the 1st to adopt them. The G35 is sweet although it will set you back ~40% more than an Altima for similar performance/specs. Gotta love RWD and a 6 spd (to come) though!

Re: Altima is real.

OOOOOOHHHHHHH, I agree big-time! That Altima is one nice ride and if I had the choice between that car w/ its 180 hp 4 cyl and my max with the wimpy 160 hp 6, I would choose the Altima hands down. It's a very nicely styled car that wasn't overdone (ie the old oval Ford Taurus). IMO Nissan is on the right road and they are going to kick some **** in the future with their lineup.
Infiniti has some nice a$$ cars that I would die to get into. That G35 turns my crank every time I see one and the I35 (the one that's based off the Maxima) is sweet too. When I get out of school, I'm getting a G35 and my fiance is getting an I35 when we get married. Oh, I can't wait to see those two cars in my garage

the only part i don't get on newer cars is why the make the a$$ look like its been raped sideways...just imo but i feel the altima and max look awful from the rear, as well as many of todays cars/suvs (navigator blah!)

Most of the current appearance trends tend to gravitate less towards style and more towards aerodynamics. While I wholeheartedly agree that a kit that would adapt a VQ engine in a 3rd gen body WOULD be a nice combo, from an aerodynamic/fuel economic standpoint, it wouldn't be that efficient, unfortunately.

But then again, wtf do I know??

Aero

FWIW, the 3rd gen is actually quite aerodynamic. I think the cd is ~.32 which compares quite favourably with new cars.
