Hmm

This is something I deal with all the time, no freakin place to put my coffee. If you look in the glove box, there's little slots that supposedly are cupholders, but I don't know what kind of person would be insane enough to put anything there.

There's cupholders you can buy from Autozone that attach to your air vents, but they still look tacky and out of place. I know of no factory or aftermarket cupholders designed for Maxima's.

Boo Nissan.

Is Warpspeed going to have to design cupholders?

I guess it is time to look at cupholders, what size cup? Where would you like to put one?

Seriously!

Re: Is Warpspeed going to have to design cupholders?

i would pay a good amount to have a cup holder. i have every f****n option that nissan offers and they couldnt spend one extra yen to give me just one cup holder!!!!! i usually stick it by the E brake but it always spills. one to fit a can would be perfect. i hope someone can find one....

Wellll...

It'd be nice to have them in the center console somewhere.
But I have an idea...

A fold out cupholder. It would rest in the little storage area under where the center armrest is, then, you could open that sucker up, and pull the cupholders out and they would extend forward, to be right where your left arm is. How about a size variation and locking mechanism like they have on most cars equipped with dual cupholders.

If no one does this before me, I might have to get in contact with one of my engineering buddies to see if he'd want to help me design and produce it. Would we have some buyers?

yes, probably the biggest design flaw on the car! all i want is a simple one that sits in the ceter console, under the armrest or whatever. either there or a little more complex could be under the radio, if you have a single DIN slot deck.... please design one though! ive tried others and nothing works!

They do exist!

I have seen them in a 94 SE with a fact. BOSE system in it w no cdplayer. the little compartment under the radio is different in these cars. Instead of flipping the cover down, you push the front of it and it slides out (spring loaded), and boom! there's you little compartment! After that, there is a little slider that covers the little box and has two little round cut-outs in it! I am looking for one of these myself. Getting them from Nissan is expensive though $50+ for this little device. If I cant find one at a junkyard, then Im going to save my pennies!

Yes, they do exist

I have it on my '92 GXE. Functionally, they are pretty minimal (there's two slots, but you can only put one 12 ounce can as the other one only seems to fit a V8 can), but I have to admit it's better than nothing.

it's gotta be able to hold a slurpee or lare drink from taco bueno, or Rt44 drink from Sonic.. anything smaller would be un-american!

Better than nothing was my exact thought. besides, should we have a beverage available in the car? I dont let anyone in my car with any food or drink. My interior is in great condition and I am starting to get stains in it. but it would be nice once in a while. =)

Yes WarpSpeed should design some cupholders.

I love my maxima..but in the cupholder dept. It just plain sucks. I'd be willing to spend a crazy amount of money on a cupholder....only problem is...there is no good cupholder out there for my car...Somebody please make one!!!

Tell you what, if you design a decent cupholder and offer it as a bonus gift for your Y-Pipes, I will definitely buy one. <-- you can save this message and hold me to it.

Seriously!

Cupholders are sweet!

My Trans Am had five cupholders and the one in the center would hold a friggin 32oz Gatorade bottle! My Mustang has one like you guys are talking about though - you open the console and it flips out forward, then you can close the console and there is a cup-holder sticking out. Maybe I should take a picture of it.

i have one.. it's right below the tape deck.. '93 GXE.. it's supposed to be like a place for change or something but after you pull it out, you have to pull a flimsy double cup holder thing that spills almost everything!!!!!

I used to own a Taurus SHO and it had a removable DIN sized retractable cup holder/change tray thing below the radio. I thought about taking out the 'storage bin' thing on my 90 and finding a 91-94 Taurus with that setup and seeing if it'll fit...just snaps in place in the taurus. And everyone knows taurui are plentiful in junkyards
Just a thought

the Cup holders that do exist SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 93 SE has a cupholder, its right under the BOSE cassette am/fm radio, its a din/tray type thing that you press on and it pops out, then you have to pull this thin thingy with 2 circular openings... I rather NOT USE THIS SORRY EXCUSE FOR A CUPHOLDER. They freakin suck, one hole is too small to fit ANYTHING, i don't know why the **** they put it in there in the 1st place, you are able to fit a small can of coke or a small McDonalds drink or something in the 2nd one, but 1st of all, it is slightly slanted towards you, so if the drink is filled to the top it can spill, I go through drive-thru's and I need to put the Cup somewhere, so when i use the cup holder, any slight acceleration will turn it over and spill every where! I stained my floormats spilling Snapple. I messed up my cell phone which was lying under the handbrake like that.
I rather not have cup holders then have them in the 1st place, because occasionally I try using them because I get food and I am desperate to put the cup somewhere, so I end up driving like I'm drunk because I am constantly in a bent position attempting to support the cup incase it tilts, or I always have to watch that **** and drive extra careful.

I wish there were cup holders on the LEFT side, something that pops out of the dashboard near the fog light switch or something. It doesn't get in the way of the radio and stuff that way.

What I do with big cups or bottles now is stick it between the door and the seat on the left side, works much better, and if it spills i don't wet anything important.

One of my friends has a Chevy Venture. It has foldout cup holders that are attached to the right side (passenger side) of the center consoul. When not in used you can simply fold it. What I did on mine is scrwed a small (12 oz size) at the same location. I often check auto stores for something like the one in Venture that I can screw in where Venture has theres.

I'm surprised that no one's mentioned duct tape yet! I mean, it fixes EVERYTHING! From flat tires to flat girlfriends, you get the duct tape, it'll fix it and look good in the process. Try that to hold your coke in there.

SOLUTION!!!

I am a project engineer at a steel and sheet metal manufacturing company. I could make some type of cup holders: we have laser cutters, high precision press brakes, and many other machines. Using these machines, you can make about anything in stainless steel, aluminum, or black steel, any guage or thickness. So...

If I design and make something, what would ya'll prefer?
Console mount, dash mount, single holder, double holder, size, etc., etc. Any sketches or ideas, post on this thread, or e-mail me.

P.S. Any other ideas for add-ons could be considered too.
I made a cell phone holder that mounts to the console using an existing screw, and then velcro. Not the best design, but it has potential. I can get this kind of stuff made very cheap.

SAME HERE!!! I will buy one if you can make it. If you design one, don't forget about us 5spd drivers. Make one that can be used in a 5spd with a double din head unit. I'll tell you what I did for a substitute though. I bought a front seat caddy made by Case Logic. It is made out of nylon and has a built in cupholder. It's hard to describe but I put it in the passenger seat and buckle it in and it holds a 44oz. drink from Sonic. If you look at the size of the drink holder in it you'll think I'm lying but I swear I can get a 44oz in there with ease. I bought it a Target.

this is what i think is a good idea and my just actually do. make one that sits in the armrest(when you flip it open). this can probably be done very easily. get some plastic sheets, cut it to fit smoothly into the armrest, put some sides on this top peice, so that it stands up and doesnt slide. then in the top peice cut two holes that actually can fit cups in them and bam! cup holders that everyone can use. then, if you dont like the look of having the plastic showing, get some of that carbon fiber sheets, cut it to fit on and there ya go. i will draw this up in autocad or something if you dont understand what i mean or if anyone is interested in seeing a detailed drawing

sweet! i would be willing to buy one of those especially! I think aluminum wuold be the best, lighter and stuff, steel just seems kinda clunky, but i think the best place is in the center console, so you just flip up the armrest and you got 2 (if you can fit 2) cup holders ready for ya! how much do you think they would cost? $20<? cause then im definitly in!

Cup holder

I never allow trash in my cars, but I do like to have a drink. Coffee/winter and pop/summer. I have a '74 MGB with the same problem. Foreign parts places are now selling cup holders that screw into the outside wall or transmission hump. They fold flat when not in use. I don't have one, but you guys might figure out a new and different way they could be used on a Maxima. If you come up with a good idea let me know. I have four cars that need cup holders.

I just use the ones that have the "push in flap" that goes between the door and window. They work just fine and when they get in the way you can just pull them out and put them in the trunk or where ever...

I covet real ones though

I have used that type also. One problem, when you get out of the car and close the door the drink slops. I would still like something not attached to the doors.

Yes, that's a real pain. I finally have my self trained not to leave stuff in them and slam the door.

I drink coffee - in those early mornings the other problem I had for a while when I first got my Max was holding the cup in my hand and then shutting the door. The electric shoulder belt would activate and I'd spill all over myself (and feel really stupid).

Ok, I'd get real cup holders and get rid of the dumb electric belts.
