4th Gen Lashing.
I was on westheimer tonight and this chick in a black 4th gen max pulls up to the light. I wasn't down for anything so when the light turned green i took off as normal but she peeled her tires and floored it. I was like whoa. it's on. So we get to the next light(which usually happens on westheimer) and I look the car over and see it's an SE, most likely a 96. Well I get kinda sweaty in the a$$ but it's a chick and chances are it's a stick and she might not shift well. Yeah right. It's auto. Light turns green and i give it. I go through 1st and I'm ahead by the hood length. I hit 2nd and she's gaining. I get to 5/5.2k rpms and hit 3rd. She's pulling away faster than i can ever imagine and finishes me off. Yeah. Nice night all right. Felt like crying cos it's the first loss i've had since the new y-pipe.

do remember vgs lose power at 5.5k or sumpth around there unless you have a JWT ECU which i dont. Besides, it was a newer maxima SE!

well, its not early but in my opinion the vg is best arounf 3.5 - 4.5k rpms... when you shift at 5-5.2k i believe it falls out of its powerband... i dunno though.

Re: well
Shifting at peak power is not the idea, you generally want to shift near the red line so when you grab the next gear the revs are still high enough to pull quickly through the power band. Of course you don't want to bump the rev limiter.

When racing one generally shifts at redline. It may be out of it's powerband slightly earlier than that, but you still wanna shift at redline. Simple as that.
