93 SE to a 92 SE engine swap

I have a totalled 1993 Maxima SE 5 speed. Is it very difficult to put the engine and tranny in a 1992 Maxime SE auto? I will have both cars side by side to do the swap, so I should have all brackets, grommets, etc. from the 1993 to put in the 1992.

Should be fairly straight forward since you have the ecu etc.....and in the worst case the whole 5-sp wiring harness could go over(if necessary)

not a horrible swap, but it's not like changing wheels. plan a week to do it.

I figured it would take a month or so, I may want to swap out the entire interior if I decide to do this.

Sounds like me It is not too easy, but can be done. Much easier with a donor. I would recommend using the 5 speed ecu and wiring harness, so you dont get a check engine light. If you come to cali I can have the trans swapped in both cars for $500 and the trans and engine in both cars for $1000

I'll have the complete donor car (minus mashed in front clip) tight outside the garage for the operation. That should make it easier. I've got 2 cherry pickers, and 2 engine stands. This is all IF the insurance doesn't want too much to get it back.

I assume that I will be able to leave the stock wiring, just change the ECU, the engine and the tranny? Will the same mounts work? OR do I need to swap some of those as well? I also assume that I just punch out the hole in the firewall, then mount and hook-up the clutch pedal? Anything out of the ordinary to watch out for? For some reason the gentleman who sold me the car thinks there are differences between the 2 years. I thought they would be the same since they are both VE engines.

A/C

If I remember correctly, 1992 was the last year of the R-12 refrigerant A/C and 1993 on models had R-134a A/C. If this is the case, some parts are probably different.

hmmm thats kinda wierd because i would think they would do the change between 1991 and 1992. my 93' has R-134a. what about GXEs, do any of them use R-134a or do they all run R-12.

Other than being illegal in many states emission/inspection wise. It should go off without a hitch.
