good car choice.
now i wish my computers were all up (ie, server for sig.).

ive seen 3rd gens go for $2500 and lower, but they arent in that good of condition. remember you get what you pay for. i paid $4000 for mine, its a 1993 SE 5speed with 96,000 or so at the time). actually Flyry110 is selling his at a pretty decent price, especially for a VE 5speed, also around where i live, the 3rd gens seem to hold theyre value a little more than in other places, ie. more expensive.

for $2500 you could probaby get a VG maxima, go for a manual so you save yourself money on the tranny. that will get you a reliable one (well can be reliable as long as you dont abuse or neglect them). the VE's are faster and more powerful but depending on the condition (remembering if you can find one for $2500) the VTC's may need to be replaced or rebuilt or fixed or well may wanna search on this one, havent had to worry about mine.

good luck

as long as it runs, and gives me minimal problems, i will be ok. should i check out a police auction.

PS getting another 2k would be tough to get from my mother, shes tough with money, espcially that much. I could possibly ask all of my relatives in a combined effort to give me a few hundred here or there. they are such penny pinchers.

I just bought a nearly perfect 92SE with only 60K on it for $4300. It needs VTC's and I have replaced 3 window regulators. Something was up with the bose stereo, so I put in a good aftermarket.

So, to get a nice car you will have to spend more than $2500...

have a job?
i dont think its a good idea to owe lots of people that much money, its hard to pay out.
lay out a payment plan with payment dates and when you will have it paid off, then present it to you mom, make it look really good. show her your responsible also try not to spend money on mods but make sure that you keep some aside for maintence.

you can check police auctions, but sometimes the cars have been driven really hard, ie 80mph in 2nd gear down the highway for miles.

oh btw, the 2nd geat high way thing, happened to my friends grandma, he restored the car, but it was totaled and had 2 spun rod bearings

this is basically the lineup:
89-94 gxe (VG): if you want a basic no frills, yet a good decent quality car
89-91 se (VG): if you want a good decent quality car with some sporty flavor and feel added, especially with the 5 spd models
92-94 se (VE): if you want the "ultimate 3rd gen" with the more powerful engine of the 2, the wider range of options and safety features available (air bag options only came on the 92s and up as well as ABS option) and since they are newer they will generally have lower mileage than VG se's. Although with all the benefits the VE se's have to offer there are some drawbacks which include the infamous VTCs and the auto trannies. If you want a 3rd gen and are really serious about the performace and driving aspect then VE 5 speed is the way to go.

Now that i look back i would have rather gotten the 5spd VE (i have VE auto) but at the time when i bought mine it was such in perfect condition i had to jump on it; it was tough enough finding VGs in good condition let alone VEs and VE 5 spds.

My $0.02

In New England, I've seen very decent 89-91 SE 5-speeds go for $2500 or less. You'll have to settle for mileage over 100k, but the engine runs forever and as long as the tranny and body are in good shape, you'll be ok.
