Fuel Injectors Faulty on 1994 Maxima GXE

Hello everyone. I'm hoping somebody can help suggesting alternative ways of dealing with a fuel system problem on my 1994 Maxima. I bought this car used from a dealership and later found out that the number 4 and 5 injectors were faulty. I also had to have the catalytic converter replaced (possibly due to injectors not running properly) as well as the shock absorbers. The car had 54,000 miles when I bought it at the beginning of this year. The number three injector was replaced under warranty at 27,000 miles. The dealership is currently suggesting that I replace all of them in case the remaining 4 decide to go bad in the future for approximately $1000. I'm so upset that a car of Maxima's reputation and caliber requires such expensive repairs at 54,000 miles. Has anyone had the same problem and were successful replacing the injectors on their own? Or perhaps you found ways to deal with this problem without spending $1000 for repairs. Any tips would be appreciated.

Replace them all. The injectors are expensive and the inside ones are a bit tricky to get to. The injectors run about $120 each (~$150 or so list price). The labor is about the same to do them all (assuming you have one bad on the inside fuel rail).

My first one was covered by Nissan since it was less than 50K miles under the emissions warranty. Since you are close to 50K and it is a known issue you could appeal to Nissan regional rep. Maybe some of the Nissan dealer guys can advise on the likely outcome of that path.

That said, I was told that the Bosch injectors used at that time have a somewhat porous plastic that was susceptible to breakdown over time when exposed to alcohol fuels. The newer injectors use a different, more dense material.

So, again - replace them all is my vote and see if Nissan will cover all or part. I was able to negotiate down the price substantially. Parts at cost and same labor to do 5 injectors as 1.

Good luck!
