Cold Air Intake or FrankenCar Intake???
i know CAI costs more and is more of a hastle to install but i still like it over the frankencar cuz its been around longer and many people are satisfied with it, and it supposedly delivers colder air, but the only big downsides for me on the CAI are the installation(cutting the hole and relocating the battery and all that) and also that is doesnt have as good high end power as the hybrid...frankencar is on sale for 125 and is easier to install...but just give me the better intake in your opinions? performance wise mostly, but also compared to price and installation too?? im gettin a Y pipe soon too so does either of these intakes suposedly work better with a Y??

tough one, although i don't think the performance between the 2 is much different, I look at it like this CAI = cold air good performance, frankencar = warm air, good performance....which would you rather have going into your engine, warm air or cold air? also whats this about relocating the battery for the CAI? I don't remember that step, please explain.

They seem to be very equal in performance and you might as well save the $$ and go with the frankencar, also avoiding having to do any drilling.

well not necessarily relocating, sorry...but just moving it a bit so the intake tubing can fit behind it and down...is the frankencar air gonna be warm like stock airbox warm? or cooler than that? and what makes the cold air intakes air cold??

i am very pleased with my place racing CAI, but if you are looking for good price and easy instalation, you should just get the frankencar. which ever you choose, good luck!

I went with a popcharger and a ebay upper pipe. Its like the Frankencar intake I believe. I'm a 5 spd and so far like how it sounds and perform. I think its a matter of which one you like more.

Well, If your a 5-speed get the Frankencar intake, best of both worlds with the low end of a CAI and top end of a pop charger, hell id get the frankencar anyways auto or stick. Good gains low and top. I have a hybrid intake setup and love it.

well the franken is going to be warm air (wai) as the air it is taking in is from under the hood in the engine compartment. The stock intake Im more than positive is fed by the stock ram air deal that is removed with the cai,basically forces air down into this pipe and then up from the bottom of the stock air box. the PR CAI is cold air, the filter sits inside the fender wall sucking cold air from underneath, and it is blocked out from the engine compartment. I believe it is was said that with a pr cai driving in average 85 degree weather, your car will think its snowing out? says that on custommaxima.com either way both are good, if you got the loot and wants a good intake go cai, if your on a tight budget and wants same performance go franken, either way for me still comes down to cold engine or warm engine heh

I forgot who the manufacturer is, but my friend (maximum_velocity) said that a manufacturer now has a cai that just bolts on. instead of going through the fender, it has a pipe that goes straight down. think the final position of the filter would be about a foot and a half under the mass air flow sensor area. think price is 250, which is about how much most regular cai's cost.
but if you do go with the frankencar or pop charger, (which is what i probably will end up doing) you can get colder air by putting a heat shield. i heard that most of the rally cars in japan do this. i've heard that over there, hardly anyone uses cai. the just get some sheetmetal and separate the air coming to the filter from the air leaving the radiator and radiant heat from the engine.

i have the PR CAI and it sounds awesome, its a b*tch to put on if u connect pipes wrong but if u do it right, it should be a snug fit right next to the battery and a few scratches

you DONT NEED TO RELOCATE, i just couldn't get fuse box in the exact spot it started....

i think imma go with the wspd cold air intake...and if i ever feel like converting to hybrid, i believe i can by just removing the long tubing and keeping the midpipe and attaching the filter there? is this true? i still like the idea of colder air coming to my engine, and the better low end power cuz i am gettin a Y pipe and i know that gives really good high end power, so ill both high and low with that...im an auto by the way so CAI would be better like sum1 said...one question, how bad is warspeeds shipping and stuff still? is it still gonna take me months to get it?

Well I have a PR CAI and I think it works better in Hybrid mode so thats the way I have it setup. That said maybe I should have bought the Frankincar.
When people ask me what intake I have I tell them its a PRankincar.

actually the last time i checked custommaxima.com, they were selling a cold air intake that went down below the battery, and behind were the driver side foglight would be. no fender drilling at all. correct me if i'm wrong.

i have the INJEN CAI and no drilling needed. somebody before said they heard from their distributor or something well this is the one...it costs 250 a little expensive but no drilling and looks real nice. sounds good also when floored...

well i know the frankencar is on sale now and will be on a GD in august, thanx for that..but i still like the idea of the colder air and i know u can convert a CAI into a htybrid later on if u ever wish so if im not satisfied with the CAI, ill try the hybrid setup by taking out the long pipe and seeing which one i like better...but for now im ordering the warpspeed CAI

I have the PR upper piece with a generic cone filter, basically the same as the frankencar, if frankencar existed about a year ago I would have gotten one.....I say get the frankencar hybrid

What about water? If you have a CAI, don't you need a bypass valve?

yo man dammit i dunno about the CAI now cuz i called warpspeed today and their CAI's are on backorder for atleast another month...and im not paying 200 or so for a PR..so now im probably gonna go with the frankencar cuz i cant wait any longer for my intake...and i had a feeling warpspeed was gonna gimme sum kinda crap...oh well too bad...unless i get a deal on a CAI sumwhere over the weekend, by monday then ill jus get the frankencar...thanxx guys for the help
