yeah man... i'm a prior Supra owner... man i loved that car. but after a week or so after i bought my Maxima, i fell in love again... for different reasons... but still. the Supra would take my Max in the corners... but i bet the max could easily keep up on the straights. but i still miss having RWD... theres nothing like drifting through a turn... or just flinging the back end around under full throttle. anyway, i'm gonna stop... i don't want to start crying. but the Maxima is a great car... especially the 5sp. if you are in the market for one... get one.

That guy bernout has posted on this forum too. Oh yeah, I sold my RX7 turbo when I bought Maxine, so I know the feeling of loss when you go from RWD sports car to FWD 4-door.

C'mon now guys! The Supra crowd aren't haters! Well, for the most part, nearly every owner I'd encountered in the past few years has been great. Although you wouldn't be able to tell from reading Supraforums...

I'd be willing to believe tey are more elegant car owners like us. Thats why we get along so well. Maybe we can form some new partnership. Although I want to keep my Max I'd love to be a supra owner oneday.

Um 2 grand isn't going to allow you to get an atuo either, lol. What are the differnt trim lines of supra's and how much do they cost? I need something to go up against my friends 3000GT VR-4. The max can't cut that.

there really aren't any trim levels for Supra's... just turbo/twin... or n/a. there are different options you can get... i.e. targa top, electronic suspension, auto/manual, leather... blah blah blah. but as far as a supra that can keep up with a vr-4, stock for stock, a 93 or newer twin turbo can do the job. the only real advantage the vr-4 has is its 4wd. but i'm pretty sure the vr-4 is atleast couple of hundred pounds heavier than the supra, so it will be a pretty even race... depending on drivers. they are both in the range of 300hp. or you could get a turbo for your maxima... along with some suspension... then you might have a chance to hang with a vr-4.

I think he meant he's only paying for $2k of it, and mom's getting the rest, so he doesn't have a choice in transmission options.

hey at least he gets a car

i bought my first one..it was a 1987 celica ST
second car
1989 celica all trac

I bought both for less than 4k a pop and i bought them in 96 and 97. Consider yourself lucky your mom's buying you a ride. a maxima with an auto isnt the WORST thing you can buy. Think what you would get with 2k? 1985 crx anyone?

i agree. i cant stand hondas or acuras (well except NSX heh), and ill take any max, anytime. i just have that horrible feeling that ill miss out on that extra .5 seconds on an auto. maybe a transmission swap is an idea a few yrs down the road any one know how much all the parts run? with LSD tranny? labor?

I was reading Road & Track yesterday...

First of all I've always loved Supras and Maximas equally. Almost bought one before I got my Max(SPACE-had to consider my kids). Anyway, Road & Track reported Toyota is working on a new Supra to compete once again with the Z. No details yet but the design is supposedly done. I'm excited

ladeesman... TT's are available from 93+ and the single turbo's are available from 1987 to 1992. the single turbo's have 232hp and 260ft/lbs.. not enough to beat a vr4... but they have mad potential. do a search for a supra website... i read on one of them that with a few extra pounds of boost and a new fuel pump that car can be in the 300hp range with about 350ft/lbs. that inline 6 has alot of HP potential and even more torque potential. when i rebuilt my engine in my supra, i got forged pistons, rods, and crank... and changed the compression to about 11:1... i didn't do the math, but my tech said he did. anyway, that thing turned into a torque monster. kinda scary to drive in the rain. but as far as how much $$... supra's are very rare cars. so the body style like i had is kinda old, not everyone took care of them... so unless you found one like i did... bought it from my uncle... it might be a project car. and the 93+... i think those cars are still close to $20k. and a TT... maybe $25-30k.
