Headlight - high/low combined??

I was in Pep Boys and saw a box that you hook up to the headlights to make the high beams come on with the low instead of the low going off - they are both on at the same time when you put the high beams on. Will this fry the wires or melt anything, or otherwise cause damage?

In addition to possibly burning the wiring or connectors, you will reduce the life of the bulbs.
