Cutting Bump Stops if your getting low

I stand corrected about my theory on bump stops!

The B&G setup definately needs to have the bump stops trimmed. I took 3/4 of both the front and rears off today. The rear of my car was actually sitting on the bump stops, I had very little, if any rear suspension travel.

Took the car for a ride when I finised and much to my suprise it rides completely different. Smooth as silk! So smooth that I even cranked up my rear AGX's on setting tighter. I really can't believe how much the ride has changed for the better!

Bottom line - If your lowering the car more then say 1 1/2 inches, check how much suspension travel you have with your car on the ground. Especially the rear!!! The OEM bump stops, part of the OEM dust covers definately need to be trimmed. The KYB dust covers are said to already have smaller bump stops. I'd really like to have somebody compare side by side to see how much different they are.

The problem with the rear OEM bump stop is it's part of the dust boot. I cut 3/4 of the stop out, leaving me with the dust cover cut off as well. Some super glue seems to have re-attached the dust cover to whats left of the bump stop. So far it's holding nicely. I'd almost be willing to toss the dust cover in the trash and forgetaboutit if it comes lose. Another solution of course would be getting the KYB rear dust covers, but as I said before, I'd like to see a comparison so we know how much smaller the KYB bump stop really is.

I hope this info helps those with B&G suspension systems or similar drops. My car now rides as smooth as, if not better then stock!

Tom

Good research!! You sure helped me out!

I thought that my ride was just meant to be that rough.

Thanks for the post. I did not know my boot was connected to my bumper stop, I'll be cutting them soon.
Question: I'm going to buy new dust boots because mine are way gone, will the rear oem boot come w/ the bumper stop?

If you are replacing dust boots already I would just get KYB dust boots. They are cheaper than OEM (at least when I bought them), and they definitely have the bump stop cut. I have only bottomed out one time ever, and I get my suspension traveling a good distance sometimes.

I wouldn't get the dustboots removed completely... I had my springs installed originally because I didn't have time to do it... They cut off my dustboots, and about a month later, my struts started squeaking from all the dust and crud that got in them...

Yes and there to big. You have to distroy the thing in order to modify it. You might be better off ordering the rear dust covers from KYB. It's said the bump stops are already trimmed. I believe there cheaper then OEM also.

I tried to PM you last night to tell you not to get the OEM stuff but your mailbox was full. I'm glad you read this post! Get the KYB dust boots all around and your gonna love the B&G + AGX ride. So smooth on the highway I can't believe it. And with almost a 2 inch drop too. I'm impressed!

Yeah, had to clean out my mailbox. I also got the samples, thanks alot. I called Tirerack about the dust boots and he said they only have the strut mounts. Cattman is the only place I've seen them available, guess I'm going back to Brian.

I just ordered the KYB bump stops. I'll take a picture next to a ruler, and then you should be able to compare the size. If you could take a pic of your cut OEM ones then we could compare the sizes.

This is too funny, I just got off the phone with Catman, I placed my order for the rears today. Should ship out Monday. We'll really know what the deal is now!

I got all four. So it was $60 and $10 shipping.

The cheapest price for all four OEM dust boots I could find was $63, not including shipping.

Is it necessary to cut the boot if I'm using H&R springs with KYB GR-2. Should I get the OEM boots or KYB?
