What is max tire width on 17x7" wheels?
Be careful of going to narrow though.
The rim will be real close to the edge of the tire...Which means don't ever come close to a curb!
Some tires have a slight lip at the edge so this won't be a problem...Potenza RE730's for example.
Probably 225's would be a good fit as well.
I have 235X40's on 18X8, and I'm right to the edge of the rim, but have pirelli 7000ss(no lip)....Careful...heeheh.

What about the stock 16 x 6?
I have the stock SE wheels on my Max and I was looking to get some 225/55 size tires. Would there be a problem with that? I figured that this was along the same lines as the original question.....

yupe it will fit
but it won't look as good as if it's on 17x7.5 or 17x8 rim..
i have it on mine 235x45zr17.. the width is very narrow...
here's the picture of my stock tires next to the 17x7 tire

Wow, Excellent illustration...
but im confused..
I definitely want wider (wider is better)
What exaclty were the photos of...wheel size and tire size of each.
I am looking at getting OEM Nissan 17" wheels and want to know if I can go to 235/45 without to much sidewall "curl?"

I've 225 60's on OEM 15" wheels and they fit fine. Even though Tire Kingdom warned me against doing this, they said the tires would cause vibrations in the front end. NOT!
An additional benefit to the wider is better concept is that I personally like having more rubber outside the rim since my wife drives the car sometimes and we know what can happen around curbs and such to rims.

this picture is 17x7 rim 235x45zr17 and it's not lowered, 235 will fit in the 17x7 rim. the picture i posted earlier was the stock GXE 15" rim/tire comparing w/ 17x7 rim. 17x7 rim is a little small for 235 tire to seat properly. it'll work fine but on the 17x7.5 or 17x8 rim, the tire will look wider since it's not so compressed in the 17x7 size rim. there is a "curl" but not that excessive, it's acceptable.. it's a Pirelli supersport 7000 mounted on the Enkei 17x7 rim
