Variable intake from 5th gen...

Ok, im lookin into the Variable Intakes, and have a few questions...

I know that the 2002 Max's have the VI, but do the 2000 and the 2001 have them?

Is it possible from takin one off of a 5th gen and putting it into my 4th? And what obstacles will there be?

If i was goin to buy, or salvage one, is it a direct bolt on, or is there anythin else i need...

I searched and couldnt find the information i needed. Thanks to all for any help...

Yes the 2000-2001 have a variable intake, and no they will not fit on a 4th gen. There is a variable intake available for the 4th gen that Nissan used on 4th gens in some other countries, and is has been posted about many, many times in the last 6 months. I dont see how you could have become a maxima fanatic and not seen any threads about it?

Well i have read alot about the MEVI, but couldnt find a straght answer about swappin the VI's from the 5th gen? Well thanks for the help guys, but one more thing. Why exactly wont the 5th gen VI fit on the 4th gen? I know they're both VQ's, and im sure they make a differnce, but why couldnt i just put one of them on?

It wont work, not without a ton of labor and headaches. Not to mention it would probably be more expensive than the MEVI just for the parts... not even taking into account the labor and R & D you'd have to deal with.

Oh, I thought I heard something about the 5th gen VI not fitting under the hood of the 4th gen either.

I don't know if you're the one that PM'd me about trying to use a 5th gen VI on the 4th gen, but this is what I found out when looking at Russ's 2K1 SE last year at a Nissan meet. The 5th gen intake manifold is taller than the 4th gen intake manifold therefore it will not clear the hood. The 5th gen manifold is expands deeper towards the firewall which would be extremely tight for the 4th gen. The 5th gen uses a different throttle body and the vacuum system (emissions, VI accuation, linkage) is completely different from the 4th gen. Simply put, it would be a HUGE pain to make this system work. Keep in mind that it will be very hard to get a "used" VI from the 5th gen because most junkyards sell whole motors, not parted out motors.

Save your time and mind and order the MEVI from Mr.Cranman.

500 shipped?

When did that happen?

I thought it was 530 shipped.

I sold them in 1 Group Deal, but I don't think I'm going to do it again...too much hassle with no return.

Look in the GD Forum. Cranman is selling them.

here is my info on them:
