A question to everyone who has done a Home Depot grille
A question to everyone who has done a Home Depot grille
Well actually its 3 questions....
First - What is the screen that you guys use to make your grilles? I went in there one day with my friend and spent an hour looking for screening and couldn't find any. Besides making maxima grilles, what else is it used for?
Second - about how much should I buy? I want to cover the grille, the 2 slits underneath the grille, and cut out the place where the factory fogs would be and cover that (i'm going to make coolers for the front brakes
)
Third - Has anyone done a write up on making a home depot grille? I did a search but didn't come up with anything.
thanks for any input

all your questions can be answered by search, but i will tell u anyway. go to the gutter section of your homedepot (not the door screen section) and it is called gutter mesh.
you should only need 1 roll. i did my grille and both slits on the valance and still had a bit left over. im not sure about a right up, but just get some cardboard and make a templete and go off that. i am reduing my next weekend actually because from an angle it looks all bent and beat up and did sit to well in it

One more quick question. Do you actually replace the grille? Or do you simply put the mesh over the black part of the grille and cover it? Reason I ask is b/c I have a 1995 GXE and the black part of the grille is acutally attached to the upper piece which is painted the same as my car. If anyone could shed some light on this I'd appreciate it, i'm in the process of doing this right now.

I've got a '95 maxima GXE, and I popped off the black grill and painted it aluminu, and then bought the gutter guard and painted it the same color for the 2 lower grills in the front end. however, i had to cut them differently cause i have aftermarket fogs in the lower grill opening.
Not too sure about a '95
I made one for my car which is a '97.
Things you will need:
- gutter guard, mine came in strips about three feet long by about eight inches wide
- some type of sharp metal cutters, preferably soemthing very sharp so that it does not bend the mesh but cuts it cleanly. I used a set of Craftsman razor cutters.
-chrome or like colored paint. I put mine on then took it off and painted it and clear coated it. I did not like the finish of the unpainted gutter guard when it was on my car.
- I placed my grill over the stock grill. I created a template by removing my grill, two clips at each top corner.
- I then turned the grill over and placed the mesh over the back and cut a rough outline the size of the back of the grill. From this I cut two separate pieces which were placed one on top and one on the lower portion of the grill.
- I trimmed them accordingly to fit. I did not remove my emblem but cut the grill to fit around the emblem.
- I secured the grill using a fine wire used to hang pictures. This wire was found at Wal Mart in their picture hanging accessories departmennt.
- this wire does not show and created the appearance that there is nothing holding on the wire mesh.
Things to beware:
prepare for nicks and cuts
I also placed mesh in the two lower openings on my bumper.
Take your time and have fun, I love the way mine looks and am happy that it only cost about $10 bucks!
Good luck!
