buying 96 nissan maxima

Hi everyone this is my first time posting. Just like to tell everyone that this saturday morning i'll be the proud owner of a black 96 maxima se 5sp. I got a sweet deal only the car for $7,550. I has only 66,000miles on it and is in near perfect condition! It has a moonroof, cloth seats and most important a manual tranny. I can't wait to get it it's al i've been thinking about for 2 weeks. before this car i had a 88' civic wagon and before that an 84' buick lesabre so this is a huge improvement. Can't wait to race my friend in his new 2002 vw gti 1.8t. Think i'll beat him he is a newbie manual driver. I'm not extremely experienced witha manual but i have more experience then him and the both cars have nearly the same 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. well thats all i have to say just excited about getting my new car and had to tell everyone.

Sup man, last saturday I bought a Green 96 SE. It has 111,000 miles on it but they last to past 200,000 miles. I got mine for $6,200 so it sounds like you got a great deal. Before this car I had a 90 maxima SE. I loved it so much i got a newer one. your gonna love this car. I use to race Civics and Accords all the time and would KILL them. Enjoy. Congrats on the buy man, I bought my '97 SE 5spd about a year and a half ago. I paid 16,900 for it with 28k on it. It has 54k on it now, and I love to take it to the track and beat the mess out of honduhs and other rice burners.

97 GLE. It's funny because when I bought my car I was so happy to have leather, sunroof, bose, and all that but I'd give it all up for a manual. Wasn't my choice though cause my parents wanted me to learn to drive a auto first which I suppose it true but now I'm gonna be wanting a 5 speed for the next 8 years.

I was just lucky to find a 5sp speed in a car shoppe i picked up the day the it expired. They were selling it for $7,950 but my dad talked them down to $7,550 I called them up the next day and suprisingly they still had which was a miracle. So I drove an hour and a half away took it for a test drive and bought it before they sold it to someone else. I couldn't believe the luck of finding one so cheap and in a manual. Thanks for the warm welcome.

heh funny

Its funny because the manuals are cheaper when first bought than an automatic. the option for an auto is like 1 grand or somethin, sad part is once you got the auto you want a manual, and if you really want one, you end up doing the conversion for 1 grand or more. I wish Nissan would just trade transmissions with me auto for 5 speed seems like a fair trade based on their "option" pricing...statistics show that 96% of maxima driver would prefer a Automatic tranny over a manul but then again 96% of the people that drive maximas are over 30 so whatever, dont listen to me just mumblin

Dealing with the hills and traffic in Seattle, I don't think I'll ever get a manual.

They're fun 10% of the time, and suck 90% of the time.

(That is if you live in Seattle, of course).

Was thinking about doing a conversion, but since I installed boost, I don't care anymore, because I'm still faster than 99.98% of the maximas out there...5spd or not.

Anyway, nice purchase, good deal.

Read the stickies, use the search, and ask for anything you can't find.

You just got a great deal on a 3 year old Maxima SE with only 21,000 miles for 14.5k. You would be hard pressed to find a deal like that here?

Awesome car (the miles are oh-so-nice) at a good price. What more can you ask? Welcome to the ownership of a nice ride. If you can do some minor mods to minimalize the sedany aspects of the suspension, you might just mistake your ride for a sports car of sorts

97 GLE. It's funny because when I bought my car I was so happy to have leather, sunroof, bose, and all that but I'd give it all up for a manual.
You don't have to give all that up. But I guess people here say most of the SE 5-speeds were low on options. I wouldn't know - a 5-speed SE is flat-out rare here anyway. I'm glad I found one with heated leather, wood, auto climate, bose (well...ok, so not bose in the end, but I was happy initially), etc. Most people would whine about the +.01 sec they'd get from all that optional equipment

Keep your eyes on the classifieds...maybe you'll find a deal in your area like the guy that posted this thread did, fully loaded though. Who knows!

Shoo. You manual guys are making me jealous. I dind't really consider the thought of getting a mnual till I got the auto. My desire for the manual has kind of toned down a bit down that I got the Frankencar intake. That sucker moves like nothing else I've ever driven. Not to get off the subject, but does anyone know roughly what time in the 1/4 that a 95 GXE auto with 17" Konigs, Greddy exhaust, and Frankencar intake? I'm just looking for an approximation since I'm still in the process of finding a race strip.

Hehe.. OT - but one local San Antonio Newspaper ran the results of a study concluding Priority Mail actually takes longer than regular mail. USPS Rocks

wheeeee!!!!

Tou guys were right, Maxima's kick a**! Damn this car is fast! it glides over bumps so you barely even feel them. even the base stereo I have is pretty good if it wasn't for a blown right rear passenger speaker. It also looks sweet when it's all shined up. Can't wait to drive it and clean it even more today. I kind of didn't like the shifter when I first started out but I got used to it quick. I also think I burned the clutch a little bit from driving it hard and the wrong way/ Oh well I'l live. You guys know what I should use to get the scratches off my car? I was going to try waxing it first then if that didn't work use touch up paint but my dad says not to use touch up paint cause I'll ruin it. Any suggestions for stuff i sould use and pick at the local car store or pep boys.

Re: wheeeee!!!!

Only use the touch up paint on places like the bumper and rear view mirror housing. Don't use it on any noticable places, like a door. I learned this the hard way. I also burned what was left of my clutch when I first got my car. About a month after I received my car, I had to get a new clutch and resurface the flywheel ($800...ouch). You can try that Maguire's ScratchX stuff for the scratches. It works OK on my deep evergreen as long as I wax immediately after I apply it. It only gets rid of the tiny scratches though. Enjoy the ride!
