I totally forgot to order a Dawes MAP/Baro switch for my MEVI install, and I'd like to find one at a junkyard. What cars can I get the MAP/Baro switch off of? Does it only come on cars with dual intake runners?
Well yes you are right. But in reality, any Nissan using vaccum as a signal will work. My VE has at least two. One for the VI and another for idle control or one of the emission control devices. Look at the older threads that Iansw has for the install. His was off a Pulsar or something
Do you think a junkyard will know what the heck I am talking about if I called them and said "I need a MAP/Baro switch off of a Nissan Pulsar or 92-94 Maxima" or will I have to go there and show them a picture of it? I'm going to check out Ian's threads now.
Might not. The thing is I went to Ian's place and showed him my baro swithes. He just went to a yard and looked for the same. I do believe he has a pic in one of his threads.
Yeah i found a picture. turns out the 4th gen has one too (being used for something else of course) according to his thread. where exactly might I look for it. I'm going to go poke around for it now.
yeah probably every Nissan has one somewhere. Any would probably work.
BTW. Got wheels?? Probably not right? Sucks. Some NW guys are flakey as hell.

I just looked, didn't find it. It might look a little different on 4th gens, but I didn't find anything that had 3 vacuum lines and wires coming out of it.
Nope no wheels... apparently global_threat has them in HIS posession now and is willing to pay me back my money if I want. I have to figure out if I can fit slicks on my current 15x6" (skinny) wheels before I make a decision though.

I was given a motor out of one of these a couple weeks weeks before I recieved my VI. I got to tinkering with it and they have a variable intake system as well. I found three switches all mounted on one bracket with more than enough vacuum hose to complete the job. If one is observant enough they may notice the vacuum switch that says TOYOTA on the side of it in my NISSAN engine bay. Black marker should make quick work of that problem.

I think my 95 does have a similar map/ valve. If I'm not mistaken it is used for both the EGR and Canister Purge Valves. It's probably different on other years but mine is located on tranny side of the engine, by the front bank of cylinders (w/ decorative cover) just below the outlet for the breather hose. It has a vacuum source going to the top, a two wire hook-up and, two "switched" vacuum sources that get routed to the EGR and the Purge Valve. I am going to look further into these. It's got a nice size and it's a Nissan part. If I have no luck w/ that, I'm gonna get the Dawes device I guess?
Cool, another car to get them off, the toyota camry. Im assuming you mean the V6 camry? Nissan Pulsars have 3 of them attached to the stock airbox Ian said. I shouldn't have trouble finding one. Heck my mom has a camry in her garage...

Yes, there are 3 attached to the stock airbox in the 1989 Pulsar, and probably most pulsars, since they only have 1 generation of model that I know of.
Here's a pic of what it looks like off the Pulsar.
There is one on our cars, it is between the battery and the engine, and is used to turn on/off the cruise control vacuum. It looks a little different.
Most junkyards know them as "Vacuum Solenoids"
