And damn I'm so pleased with my Maxima. I've never raced before and my first run was a 15.1 @ 92 (2.4 60'). I was disappointed because I wanted 14's. I didn't launch the car at all, just let it into gear and floored it. I also shifted softly. I started to get real excited though after seeing how much the other cars sucked. a 15.1 was damn good compared to all the other stuff. The best SI I saw did a 15.3 with most averaging 15.9. GSR's averaging 15.7 and three type-r's including a full toda spec valvetrain type-r couldn't break 15.5. Next race I got against a 97 Altima SE 5Spd. I thought I would totally walk on him. I slipped from 2500RPM and let her rip. I barely beat the damn Altima, it was actually a photofinish. I ended up running a 14.9 @ 94 (2.3 60') vs the altima's 15.0 @ 94 (he was running a 65shot of NOS). I still didn't shift too hard and I knew I had a chance to get a better time. My next run I ran against a new 20th anniversary maxima 5spd. Very nice vehicle. I slipped from 3,000 and got PERFECT traction, I jumped way ahead of the new maxima. I pop it into second and at about 4,000 RPM the car starts having convolsions. I try to drive it off but the car remains in convolsions for the rest of the race. I ended up with a 15.8 @ 85. I lost, the other max got a 15.3 @ 91. However, my 60' was 2.23 which was incredible. Had my car performed normally I'm convinced I could've had a 14.7ish on that run. When I was driving to the pits my car continually stalled. It wouldn't hold idle. I popped my hood in the pits and I found out my air filter popped off right before the MAF. Thus, the MAF wasn't detecting as much air flow and wasn't giving me the fuel. I fixed the vaccum leak and drove home knowing I could've had at least a 14.8 on that.
I surprised everyone of my friends. Unlike them I didn't strip my car car at all. I took my Yoko A520's to 20PSI and that's it.

The Maxima is the **** and everyone was complimenting it.

hey brian

hey brian, i was that 97 altima SE at pomona... wat a coincidence i'd find you here.. i'm a member of altimas.net, i was curious how fast maximas are so i came to this website, and wow, i found u're thread! heheeh.. nice run. nice car. actually i'd like to correct you.. i beat u to the finish line(by a hair) but only because i had a bette reaction time, but the times u posted were right. u're car did run a faster time then me. my clutch was slipping on each gear. i still have my original factory clutch. should we have a re-match once i get my new clutch in? hehe.. damn u're car is fast!! so is that all u have? intake exhaust? u have advanced timing? anything else? jus curious so i know which maximas to be scared of.. and if anyone out there can post u're 1/4 mile e.t. and mods.. im jus curious. PEACE.

Blubird-

It is pretty typical for a 4th gen 5 speed Max to get into the 14s with just an intake, y-pipe, and exhaust. Some have even hit low 14s with drag radials. Like most other higher torque fwd cars, the Maxima has a big problem getting off the line good. From a roll on race, the Maxima is very impressive for a NA V6 sedan. Unfortunately, we can't advance our timing like you guys. We just have to live with where it's set.

Bluebird, yeah u did beat me the whole race, I never completely caught up with you. All I have is some chincy $20 intake, ypipe, and exhaust. I had a decent lauch on the race with you, 2.3 second 60'. My clutch is also beginning to slip. I think a rematch should be in the future. Unfortunately I don't know where because Pomona is shutting down for these events.

Very nice runs!

Those Yoko tires kick *** don't they? I have the same one's on my Max. I street race, and those tires launch so well for not even being a drag tire. Next time you race, take the back seat and spare tire out, and race with only a gallon of gas in the tank. Many racer's I run in to, always think I'm supercharged, turboed, or I'm running nos. It's very cool to have a sedan like the Maxima, because it's a sleeper. Anyways, nice job at the track.

bluebird you surprised the crap out of me. You also had 17's so you could be into the 14's if u got 15's or so. Maxima's are very deceiving. People don't expect them to whoop like that.

Also to Doug, what did you mean "I'm not going to say I told you so" I remember everyone on the board telling me I wasn't gonna get into the 14's cause it was my first time out. Was that what you're talking about?

Also, I have a $20 cheap as hell intake. I know with a PR CAI or Stillen I could get at least .05 better. Not to mention I didn't power shift or even speed shift, just normal crisp shifting and not a very hefty launch. I was planning on speed shifting and heavy launch on the final race but the MAF went crazy on me.

Doug

Hmmm Doug, I remember you telling Brian he was gonna run mid 15's, and that there was no way he would break 15 ...he ran a 14.9, guess you were wrong

my almost stock 97 SE 5-speed

All I really have is an intake. But I'm convinced my Maxima is a bit more powerful than the average. Before I picked out the one I bought, I test drove three other Maximas at the dealer. They insisted. Anyways, I haven't 1/4 miled in a long time, but the best time I have to show for myself was a few years back at 15.17 sec @ 92.82 MPH
