Weights Of Stock 97 Se Wheels Vs. 15in Steel Wheels
i'm thinking of getting a pair of wheels/tires for racing. what would be the best choice... buying some 16" max wheels from a junk yard... buying some 15" steelies... or buying some aftermarket wheels? i don't want to spend a lot of $$, thats why i was thinking about steelies... but how heavy are those? thnx.

Just bought 4 97 SE wheels for 400 dollars... they weighed 44lbs total with lots of popcorn and two big boxes.
Just thought I would give you an idea of what they weighed and how much you could get them for... probably 10 lbs each?

Well, I am pretty **** poor at judging weight...
The two boxes they came in said 44lbs 1 of 2 and 44lbs 2 of 2.
I "assumed" that the 44lbs was for both boxes...
The boxes would have been pretty damn close to the same weight though... since they both had two rims and a whole crapload of popcorn in them.
In that case it would have put them at around 20lbs a piece... but they didn't seem that heavy to me :shrug:

Not sure what tires you are going to put on but most that you will use for drag racing will require at least a 7" rim so that lets out any Maxima rims. I bought some 15x7 used alloy rims, they weigh 18 lbs.

Buy some used Mazda Millennia wheels. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they're around 12 lbs for a 15" rim, which is damn light. Plus it's not exactly a rare car. My computer won't let me go on www.wheelweights.net but that is where you'll find weights. I'm sure it's a Mazda car, but I think it's the Millennia. They are one of the lightest factory wheels.

The 9 spoke mazda millenia wheel is 11.5lbs a piece, and the 12 spoke is 12.5lbs a piece.
The problem with the Millenia wheels is that they are only 6" wide. I'm working on finding a slick to put on them this week. If I can't find an acceptable slick I will end up going with the 15x7" Kosei K1s (13.5 lbs a piece).

actually, i recommend rota wheels. theblue has them. they're about the most affordable lightweight wheels you can get. they usually run about $400-425 for a set of 4 15's, which weight about 11-12 lbs a piece. that's for the spoon look-alike model they make. i know the subzero's aren't much more heavier, maybe a pound or two. check em out!!
