Those of you that carefully read your owner's manuals, probably know this already, but I found out that if you hold the unlock button on the remote down for a few seconds, it automatically opens your driver and passenger windows! I've owned the car since '98 and never knew it did this.

If everyone knew this already, please forgive the post, but this is the first time I had something to post that hadn't been posted a hundred times already.

Just wanted to share.

There's nothing that will impress your friends more than seeing you open the windows with the remote the first time. It also serves well to scare people walking by the car - with the dark tint they think I'm driving KITT or something! Only problem with the keyless entry is that you have to click it a couple of times, since it doesn't beep the horn. I've checked up and down on this board and can't find a fix for that. There are a lot worse problems to have though...

Isn't that cool? I bought my 97 used and the sales guy showed me when I picked it up. It was torture when he was showing me how to adjust the heat and put a CD in, but it was all good when he showed me that trick! He could have gotten another $100 out of me if I had known about that pre-sale!

I never understood why that feature was included in the car, if someone could explain to me why it exists I would love to know. Now if it rolled your windows up that would make sense because then if you were inside and it started to rain or something you could roll them up without having to leave your house, but roll down? I don't get it. I used it twice to roll down my windows like 5 seconds before I got to the car because it was really hot outside, but if that's the only use ...... I have a question though, do any of the maxima's (year/model) have like 30 seconds of power left right when you turn the car off, I always needed that because I would pull out the key only to realize the moonroof or window was open a bit... I think that would be a lot better option than having the windows roll down by remote access.
What did you mean by having to click it a couple times since it doesnt beep the horn? 1 click opens the driver side door, 2 clicks opens all doors. Although as it got colder outside I noticed it would unlock it self and then relock it self, now that will **** someone off in the cold.

People who live in hot climates value this feature. If your locked car has been baking in the summer sun all day long, it's a convenience to roll down the windows and let some cooler air in as you are walking toward the car. Talk to someone who lives in Florida, Texas, or Arizona. They will explain.

When you lock the car, it just flashes the turn signals twice, so I'm always paranoid that its not locked. On my friend's Jeep, the horn beeps quietly when you lock it so there's no question. I wish I could change my Max to that so I don't have to turn around and click "lock" again to be sure it's locked. Yes, I'm lazy.

I think that is the only reason it's included - to cool down the car on a hot day. Plus, it's just spiffy =).

The Nissan owner’s manual has valuable model-specific details on the day-to-day use and care of your car, as well as recommended maintenance intervals. If you’ve lost or misplaced your manual, just call 1-800-247-5321 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. eastern time, Monday through Friday. There is no charge for 1999, 1998 or 1997 manuals, however, there is a $12.00 charge for owners manuals prior to the 1997 models.

What REALLY sucks is if you do it when you're walking to the car after a big snow! Down come the windows and in goes the heavy snow!

Yep, it's like the best feature of my car. A Godsend on hot days, when the interior of my car is scorching hot. I think if I did not have this feature, I'd prolly pass out from the heat after fumbling my keys at the ignition while trying to get the windows open.

Yeah, what are you talking about? You can't roll the windows back up on a 4th gen Max using the remote control.

I know this because after I read your post I ran outside and tried your technique, then felt pretty stupid when it didn't work.

Rolling windows up is nice, but I'd settle for a horn chirp whenever I arm the stock alarm. It's pretty smart of nissan to put that in the 5th gens.

Very true. Here in Houston we regularly hit triple digits for days at a time in the summer. This past summer we had a spell of 3 digit temps well over 2 weeks. And it is humid as all get out here. So the remote roll down is major help.

At least I don't have to deal with snow.

Shame Shame on you guys for making him go outside.

Hey Daniel my new internet mechanic advisor: What about the TSB on the 95 Max remote control device, my hasn't worked for years and I haven't done anything about it. Would be nice to get it working again. Got any info on that my friend.

P.S.

I love your responses; you are right on, to the point...Who can argue with that. Your are THE MAN!

my 89' did it too

I could roll the windows down, and roll them back up when I lock my doors. Worked for the sunroof too. Start the car on cold days....turn on my headlights in the dark....blast my stereo without ever touching the car...I miss my Clifford.

Jambo: when was the last time you rolled down your windows in a "big snow" in Alabama

It is a cool feature, though. It gets pretty hot in the South in the summer.

You can't roll the windows back up. Look in the manaul, it's stated in the manual. Too bad though, I wish it was possible.

Per popular request: TECHNICAL BULLETIN NTB94-105 (definitive remote use/prog)

Here it is, enjoy fellow Maxima owners:

Classification: EL94-015

Section: Electrical

Models: 1995 Maxima

Reference: TECHNICAL BULLETIN NTB94-105

Date: November 22, 1994

1995 MAXIMA REMOTE CONTROL PROGRAMMING AND OPERATION

APPLIED MODEL:
1995 Maxima (A32)

SERVICE INFORMATION

Nissan has introduced a remote control for the power door locks and security system on the 1995 Maxima. This Bulletin explains the operation, programming and diagnosis/repair of the remote.

REMOTE OPERATION

Door Locks

Locking: Push the Lock button on the remote. The hazard lamps will flash twice and all the doors will lock.

Unlocking: Push the Unlock button once to unlock the drivers door. Push the Unlock button again quickly and all the doors will unlock.

In addition, the interior light will stay on for 30 seconds if the room lamp switch is set in the center position.

Opening the Driver's and Passenger's windows:

Push and hold the Unlock button. If the button is released, the windows will stop.

Trunk Lid Operation

Push the Trunk lid release for 2 seconds or more, and the trunk will open.

NOTE : The trunk will not open if the trunk lid cancel lever (located in the trunk) is in the "Cancel" or down position.

Interior Light Operation

Push the Interior light button on the remote controller and the interior light will come on for 30 seconds. The Interior light may be turned off by pushing the Interior light button, the Door lock button, or inserting the key into the ignition.

Panic Alarm Operation

Push the Lock button and hold. The alarm will stop when you press any of the buttons on the remote or wait 30 seconds. If you use the Trunk button to stop the alarm, remember that you must hold the button down longer.

IF THE REMOTE DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY:

1) Verify the incident.

2) Verify the key is not inserted into the ignition.

3) Verify the battery in the remote has a voltage value of at least 3 volts. If not, replace the battery with Sanyo CR2025 or equivalent by opening the remote lid with a suitable tool and closing it securely when done. It may be necessary to reprogram the remote so be sure to confirm it's operation after replacing the battery.

4) Based on environmental and battery conditions, the remote should work up to 50 ft away from the vehicle.

REMOTE PROGRAMMING

Each Remote controller has a discreet ID code which must be programmed into the vehicle control unit. The procedures are as follows:

1) Close and lock all the doors.

2) Insert and remove the ignition key from the ignition more than six times within 10 seconds. (The hazard warning lamp will flash twice).

3) Turn the ignition key to the "ACC" position.

4) Push the remote lock button once. The hazard lamp will flash twice to confirm programming.

5) If you need to program additional remotes (up to a total of four), unlock the drivers door using the door lock ****, then lock it again.

6) Push the lock button on the additional remote once. As before, the hazard lamps will flash twice to confirm programming.

7) Steps 5 and 6 must be repeated to program each additional remote.

True, we haven't had one here, but I was in Virginia during the Blizzard of '96. Boy, was that a mess. More snow than I'd ever seen!

Poor Camry couldn't handle it.

LOL, I like how you messed with people's heads.

But, seriously they should have allowed the windows to roll up by remote.

Yeah they should go up

True they should roll back up .. But this feature i find usefull here in Georgia.. In the summer time you car cooks on the inside, so before you actually get in the car i just hit the button and release that hot air before i even get in. But other then that i don't really see a use for it.

i love opening that sucker in the california sun. Saves me from sweating like a pig. Couple of times though i accidently turned it on in the rain. Weird thing though. If your key is in the ignition, i cant lock or unlock the car...BUT on my ex's 2k frontier you can do open, lock, and make the car beep while driving. i loved suprising her by making her car beep when i was in another car...odd is all i can say.

that's nice to know

But then i'll be getting the best of both worlds because i'm installing my roll up/down window module to my Viper 550. By next weekend i'll be able to remote start my car, pop open my trunk, roll up/down my windows independently. All i'm waiting for is the expander module for my alarm since i pretty much used up all the accessory outputs of my alarm. And i'm also thinking of installing a door poppers if i do get my door handles shaved but i might have to get a different alarm to get everything working properly.
