installed strobe lights today, impressions...

so i finally got around to installing some Streetglow blue headlight strobe lights into my clearance lights next to the headlights. So far i just temporarily squeezed the strobes inside those clearance lights through the same whole as the bulb twists into...I might change the setup later to the correct way of drilling whole through the top.

The clearance lights are pretty foggy so you can't the strobe when its off during the day, and its hard to see it during the day when its ON probably because its blue besides that its foggy. However, at night the blue really stands out nice when they are ON. They radiate everything around me , like the reflection off of other cars around.

STrobes i hooked up directly to Battery & a blue illuminating switch....so everything matches and i can turn strobes on any time i want.

I'm sure they're nice, but like all low-power strobes they have a mind of their own. They will work whenever they want, not in a standard pattern. Trust me, I've bought strobes from APC, Pilot, Streetglow, & Exceleon. None of them will blink at the same time in a standard patter. BTW I had one set squeezed in the bulb hole also and nothing bad came of it. If you don't want it to be permanant that's the way to go. I did though, so I have red Pilot strobe sticks and Excelon Orb Advance blue u-strobes in the corners. Can you say Police?

right, there's no real pattern, but its not important to me. as long as they flash and look pretty i'll be happy .

How exactly did you position the strobes when u put them through the bulb whole? did you let them hang down, or stay up, etc?

thanks.

They kept hanging down but I wanted them to stay up. After a little practice I could position them perfectly so that once I turned the large bulb they stood up strong. The key is not to put much strobe wire in the cornerlamp so that they are taught. Now I have the u-strobes coming up from the bottom and the strobe sticks coming down from the top. I thought twice about drilling holes in the cornerlamps, but they look much better drilled in. You can't see them through the lens as easily and they project better because the bulb is not in the way as much. Plus if I always wanted to take them out I could leave the strobe's stopper/grommet in the hole and take the system out. So think about drilling, I think it was worth it. But then again I couldn't put two through the bulbhole so if I was going to drill one what the heck why not another.

I have Whellen 90watt strobes in my car, I want to put a few others in just for effects. The Whellen are pretty bright, as in I can pull cars over on a sunny day in July. Nice to see others playing with strobes...

Whelen The same thing the cops use. The ones we are talking about aren't half as nice, but then again they aren't even close to half the price.

I think i saw your strobes if you were at the June 9th NE meet. Those strobes were really nice and bright, you got a lot of attention with those strobes on during the meet.

have you guys thought about hooking these strobes to aftermarket alarms, so when alarm goes off strobes go off......im seriously thinking about it...after i get tired of playing with these ill have my local shop hook them up to my Viper alarm.

I would hook them up to the alarm if I new how too.

Isgt-Yeah I was at the JErsey City meet.

What kind of strobes are you guys talking about, like I said I would like some to just accent the rest of the car. put them in just to add a little extra to it.

I've thought about doing the alternating flashers for a little effect as well. Its a relay that you can get from Radio shack, you just wire the switch and run/splice into the wires you want to alternate (headlights, tail lights, blinkers, even interior door lights) and when you turn the relay on they'll alternate on and off/left and right. There is a "how 2" on maximadriver.com

These are $15-$30 low-power strobes. They blink about 1/sec. I like them though, I still get tons of attention from them.

That would be awesome if you could get the door lights, map lights, and taillights alternating. Headlights even cooler but I am assuming you already have those awesome Whelens in there.

yea, kool, i was one of the guys borrowing tools from you for my speaker install.

anyways....the strobes i got are Streetglow headlight strobes. They are better then those bootleg brands that aren't known too well. They were $50: http://www.streetglow.com/site/images/large/strobe2.jpg

But they get attention at night, not too much during the day though...definately not like yours on that sunny day at the NJ meet. I took my car down to the underground garage parking lot at my job today, turned them on and was driving around, lol everyone was staring trying to look through the tints to see who it was...its fun

Is it handy enough to drill through the top of the lens ???

Will an ordinary steel drill bit drill through the reflector or is there a different way to do it ???

StreetGlow's are ghetto strobe setups, and no one would ever mistaken you for the police if you flashed them (at least I wouldn't). If you want real-deal strobes click the link in the bottom of my signature and go to my thread. I sell the best and brightest authentic strobes, made by Whelen. Police, fire and EMS use them for one simple reason...because they're the best.

I have whelen, and I agree that they are good. I don't think anyone here is trying to pretend that they are cops, fire, ems, or a funeral procession. Just want to get noticed by a bright beacon of light. But your harmless plug for yourself at the cost of another company is ****s poor marketing. Go flame somewhere else.

Go flame somewhere else? I had no intention of flaming anything, I was simply telling the truth and you know it. There's no need to get upset over it.

I know it, thats why I have what I have. But to plug your side job is bad marketing. Because of reading that, you would probably be the last dude I would go to for even replacement parts...

If you want whellen strobes go to www.sirennet.com

At least they have tact, and customer service.

Wahh wahh wahh, poor baby I can't wait until your *** gets thrown into jail for having the lights in your car. I'd laugh so hard at you

BTW, I didn't know that Internet order companies had tact? Go shop at Sirennet if you want to pay $20 for shipping. My prices are better than Sirennet anyday. See ya later.
