late last nite i was on the garden state parkway and there had been an X5 just following me...once we hit the toll plaza we both went through ez-pass at about 20mph...and he punches it...it took me a second to realize it and i couldn't catch up...he kept pulling just slightly up to 100...then we both got off and onto a merge going about 30 onto route 3...we both hit it and i took off...i was ahead of him by 2-3 by 100...i couldn't see if it was a 3.0 or a 4.4...any thoughts?

Well if you were ahead of him it wasn't a 4.6IS... my guess is a 4.4 but I could be wrong.

What time was this? I was on the GSP yesterday....then on rt. 3 at the Ramada in Clifton visiting a friend. Odd. It was probably a 3.0 with manual or a 4.4 auto. Those trucks are no slouches.

it was about 2:30am...it was the bloomfield toll plaza going north...then i got on rt 3 west to go to clifton (home)...the 3.0 is a V6 and the 4.4 is an 8 right?...do the X5's come in manual?..i thought most lux-suv's come only in auto...who knows?

 

Oh, I was on 3 East yesterday afternoon and evening. I'm pretty sure the 3.0 has a 5-spd option and the 4.4 (4.6) is only auto. The 4.6 still hauls A$$.

I'm actually thinking it could of been 3.0 because I have a friend, who's driving 2000 740i and his brother owns X5 4.4 and X5 slightly beats his 740i. However I raced that 740 and from the start I beat him but then he caught up to me and beat me by a half lenght. Maybe cuz I had MOMO's and they slow down my car a lot or just because it's faster...

 

i think it was a 3.0 because ive riden in a 4.4 and they pull pretty hard.

everyone else - do not say, "Wait for the weekend to post stories."

Then everyone will save their race stories for the weekend and turn the 4th gen forum into a kill forum. I realize that more people go racing on the weekends and stories are more likely to pop up from time to time on the weekends. That's why racing threads are allowed during the weekend.

But if we see that people are saving up stories to post on the weekend and there is a large amount of racing threads on the weekends, then we will start cracking down on the weekends also.
