Trunk lock problem

I just wanted to know if my trunk lock is broken, because when ever I try to open the trunk with my key it doesnt even turn. Is my lock broken or on like a safety feature that doesnt allow me to use the key to open it?

You might try to lube it. Spray some lube into the key hole and then use your key to make sure it's in there front to back. Let it sit for a while and see what happens

You might also have a valet key, meaning that you can't open the trunk with it. Or the glove compartment. Try to open your glove compartment, or lock it. If you can't then you probably have a valet key

I use the key that opens the doors, starts the car and opens and closes the glove compartment.

Then I would try and lube the mechanism.

Re: Trunk lock problem

Don't you have a button on your remote on your keychain to open it?

Is there a way to take a trunk lock of another Maxima and make it work with my current key or will I need the key from that Maxima to open the trunk?

You'll need the key for the other Maxima to do that.

OMG speaking of trunk locks, shhhh. LIke 2 weeks ago, I sprayed my trunk with that foam stuff from home depot to kill bass rattle. WEll the foam oozed into the lock mechanism and made it solid. So now I can't use the key to get in, like i used to before. Whats worse is i flipped that little lever so i cant use the button. ****, i had to unscrew my box, take my seats out, somehow squeeze in into half a foot of space and flip the little lever and pry open the trunk. Not to mention that when the lock glued solit, I broke my key in it! I did manage to pop open the trunk, took off the whole lock assembly and fixed it. Man it was a nightmare.

well I sprayed liquid wrench played with it for 10Mins and it seemed to somewhat fix the problem. I think from not using the key often seemed to have make the mechanism a bit hard to use. I rarely use my trunk anyways so that may be the problem. Ill try to use my key more often. But liquid wrench solved the problem quite a bit!!!

I noticed the trunk latch on the Maxima's suck and seem so weak... make sure u don't slam it. My friend has a '97 and he had to get his replaced recently. Just watch out for that...
