New engine and trans cost

I am joining the air force and I am getting a big sign on bonus.
I was just wondering what the cost of a brand new 96 motor and 5 speed
trans runs.
No labor just parts
thanks mark

How bad do you need a new engine...If youve got under 100k just use the money to get some boost or if youre coming into a bunch..negotiate with nissan try to get down to at least 3k get a new tranny then get an SC and you can whoop up on every one

That sounds about right to me. I know our '91 Land Cruiser V6 had a new engine put in about 2 years ago. Just the engine installed ran about $8,000, but of course that is a much larger engine. I could easily see a Maxima engine uninstalled for $4,000. However I agree with Famemax, if one of your techs is willing to do it (as an under the table job), try and showhorn a more efficient engine in. It's worth a try, especailly since you're replacing the transmission anyways. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Rebuild and beef it up a little if possible. Shouldn't be more than $2k for both. And then you have your money for the turbo.

Hey dude are you crazy??!!
Why do you wanna buy a new engine for $4000? Thats like buying an OEM maxima ypipe for $1200. Thats how much it lists at so they say.

A 100K VQ is as good as new. I see you're 23. Just save that thousands you have towards getting a house or getting married man.
but, if you can find a maxima engine for under $1000, then I say go for it.

Yeah you should wait till the engine dies on you or until it atleast has 200K.
